chat it’s genuinely so important to me that henry who is the character that archetypically gets feminized so much by fandoms (british, sort of frail, repressed/internalized emotions, gay rather than bi or pan, white, into literature etc.) describes himself as pyramus and alex as thisbe.

the way fandom culture often feels the need to hetero-ify queer couples is so frustrating, especially when you’re able to note the specific traits people use to turn one into the “girl character” and the other into the “boy character” and it truly means so much to me that henry explicitly chooses to make himself pyramus rather than thisbe.

it also makes me feel things that he thinks himself the one who jumps to a drastic conclusion in fear that his lover is killed and cannot bear to live a moment longer without his love. he’s too in love to risk the way the mourning would rip him apart that he doesn’t stop to think maybe he should see that his lover is truly gone. it reinforces the idea that i’ve always had that should alex die first, the grief would kill henry. he would be doing worse than his mother, imo. he already lost one of the most important people to him and losing alex too would be a grief so much larger than him or anyone or anything else. he would be less than a shell of a man. he would be a walking corpse. he would be like achilles, telling us that he loved patroclus “…like [his] head, [his] life, [him]self.” i just love them.
