No that isn't the way to leave. Why did you get interested in Castle, when did you get disillusioned by it and in the end what is your appraisal of the series

Okay this is the last.

I have said this before but on a Sunday night I could not get to sleep. I tried TV and was taping the Mentalist( a far superior program) so watch channel 7 and it was Castle. I was hooked by Beckett ( I assume it was series 3 because she was smoking hot and the chemistry between them.

I went to the Video store ( yes they were around then) and watched the seasons with my two sons. My wife was travelling overseas.

I got disillusioned by season 5 . It was clear neither the writers nor those acting had a clue about what a flowing love story is. Trust and sharing was never part of Caskett. The very idea that Beckett would be offered a job in National Security after bring suspended in the very first episode was absurd.

By season 6 and ITBOTB it was clear the series had no future.

Castle was clearly a series that was poorly written in which those acting or directing had no idea of what they were doing.

In the very first season two problems were immediate. In the very first episode Castle and Montgomery did not know each other yet in the very same season we learn they were regular poker players?? No man would talk let alone have sex with a wife who cheated on him in their very own bed yet Castle did.

Absurdity on absurdity. In retrospect the series was doomed from the start. some of us were fooled by the wonderful chemistry between Nathan and Stana.

Alas by the second half of season 6 most episodes were crap up until the series finished.

There was no continuity in the series. It seems the writers would simply wrote something without a clue with what had occurred in earlier series. Marlowe was easily the worst of the writers. not even knowing Castle’s age in Hollanders woods simply capped his laziness.

What made this worse is some reviewers and fans did not know this either.

Who broke Beckett's heart and who scorned her? how does a man who claims he had little sex with a smoking hot wife then become a ladies man? how does one become one? Why did the Deputy Director of the FBI interview Beckett for an entry level job? how does a detective become a captain? Why din't anyone react when she did not turn up for her first day? Is all this a writing problem. If it is why di the main actors not pick up all the problems?

right on with Beckett’s ‘interview’. No-one as senior as he would be involved. you might also note everything he said was false! Beckett did and said nothing when he dissed homicide work also.

A detective would not be allowed to sit for a captain’s exam more so given her past. She would not be promoted to any position period.

. People accepting this absurdity ( and there were plenty of them) and all its implications were Trumpists before Trump.

I always found it fascinating few people commented on this absurdity. A new captain does not turn up for work on their first day and no-one does anything.

You make an excellent point in relation to the actors and actress in the show. at no time did i ever hear of people complaining about the absurdity of the scripts or how the show had no continuity at all. They were to blame as much perhaps a little less than Marlowe.

Lest anyone think I am being unfair let us never forget they could not even get Castle’s age correct in the woeful Hollanders Woods. mind you a few reviewers did not know this either despite his birthday being made explicit by one of Marlowe’s wife’s scripts.

That was laziness personified and showed no respect to the fans dwindling as they were.

on Castle and forever. Have you compared Beckett and Martinez? What about the Captains?how about switch. Henry and Jo become Castle and Beckett. Castle is both urbane and charming and Beckett whilst beautiful is neither a bitch nor a bimbo!

Yes Jo is what Beckett should have been and Henry would be the perfect Castle. That is so good I am making it my suggestion.

both Beckett and Martinez are beautiful ( highly doubtful if you could find such beauties in any police force ) but i much prefer Martinez. Why so well lets go.

Martinez appears to be a tad older and we never find out why she has had no children which is a tad strange. She loses her husband ( and remember they had a fight over nothing the morning he dies whilst Beckett lost her mother where it is likely she had a fight with her mother as she was with her father at the restaurant. Losing your life partner is by far the worst thing to occur yet Martinez seems well adjusted unlike Beckett.

Martinez has only one hairstyle ( and what a hairstyle whereas Beckett seemingly changes all the time. Where Martinez wears a white shirt with not a hint of cleavage and jeans which are not tight thus not showing odd a cute ass Beckett is the complete different. She seemingly has an outfit for every day of the year. how she can afford this only the writers know. She would be the joke of the station because of this however we never see this.

All this means is Martinez is quite self confident and secure whilst Beckett is the opposite.

You and I could never take out either of these Goddesses Jo is the much preferred. how very strange there is not a conga line of hopeful suitors lined up to take either out.

It is very hard to compare the Captains as we know little about the 11th’s Captain only what we see. What we do see id very good however.

Gates is an absolute joke. A former high flyer who has no children bit only becomes Captain when , let us be generous, close to 60, after being in Internal Affairs where you would have to know about every police division and how it works tells us she is not much good and this is backed up by her decisions on the job.

Unlike Jordan Shaw for example she never learns from her mistakes and if we are honest should have been sacked after the undercover fiasco in ITBOTB..

This is classic. Caskett have been a couple for over a year yet have not talked about their plans.

When will they try for children? Why is she still in the police force?

I viewed the Castle at the insistence of my wife. Beckett goes to the prom and then she doesn't. Lanie hates her mother and then dotes on her. Castle is a ladies man yet a man child despite the inherent contradiction . however the worst to my mind was Beckett lying her head off to Castle and what did he do? He proposed! Did anyone talk about theses 'faults' at all?

Before I answer can I say one of the problems is few people who are either great fans or critics of Castle talk to each other.

Having said that sometimes it is impossible. I remember talking to a person who said Beckett could be a Captain. When I pointed out all the absurdities it didn’t matter.

Yes A few of us did point out the problems of The plot lines of Castle but mostly we were told we were ‘haters’.

You are right no man in his right mind would propose to Beckett after her continual lying which in essence was all about her remaining a single woman.

I still do not understand why this was so. Is this the new norm. That is are people to remain single in nature when they get married. Is this the new norm or were the writers and actors simply inept?

I am in the latter camp. This means both Nathan and Stana are at fault as well as the writers and directors et al

three questions on Castle if I may. 1) Castle PI, 2) age of Caskett on having kids 3) your favourite guest star Maddy?

I’m sorry but I am not sure of what your questions are but I wil try

1) Castle PI. Absurd from start to finish.

Castle finds out who murdered the victim. He is arrested and put in the cells where he is killed. Castle is blames. Why? The cells are Gates responsibility not Castle. Once charges are laid it is public knowledge. When does any AG department determine whom is allowed or not allowed into a Precinct.

Why would Castle want to be a PI? there is no money in it. It is very seedy work as we saw in season one. The only thing Castle would get is a large tax deduction but that does not cover all his costs.

Let us go to the last season.

Alexis suddenly becomes a PI. It helps in her degree. Funny degree in has technology, English as a second language and now PI work as part of it.

She can pay for the large amount money to re-furbish the office. Castle does not realise money has come out of his accounts and how Alexis can access his money is yet another absurdity.

how Alexis can do PI work when she is clearly younger than the allowed age is also not explained.

It is simply absurdity on absurdity

2) Caskett’s age and children

I think I am the only person who ever brought this up. When they eventually have children they have been together some 5-6 years. The risk are rising every minute they put off having children. It would be the first thing on their minds yet they do not even discuss this. totally absurd

They are close to 50 and 40 when first becoming parents. Imagine their daughter gets married at say 30. They would be 80 and 70. They would look like grandparents not parents!

3) Yes my favourite guest was Maddy and we should have seen her quite a few times after season 2. most importantly at the wedding

I have to say my two sons when viewing thought it was almost Castle 2.0.

I am not convinced. Yes it appears Officer Nolan has magic mounds of money like Beckett.

On a mere rookie salary he can rent a spacious even luxurious apartment and ha vet plenty over to enjoy life. It is like Beckett and her wardrobe. She simply did not have the space for it let alone being able to afford it unless she spent all her mother’s life insurance on her clothes!!

On an aside Nathan has no chemistry what ever in his thus two affairs.

Apart from that the only similarities is the woeful writing.

Nolan is in the midst of divorce yet despite that he has two relationships. That is totally absurd but very Castle in itself. Then we have to ask why either woman would have a relationship with him.. .No reason is given.

His TO goes from a hard ass to a mess. Going out with a married man and then denying her foster childhood. Gimme a break

His original captain is way too young for the job and would not gout out with a rookie in a car when essentially that was what she was in a police car.

The Police Commissioner is way to old for a Mayor to keep him past retirement age. And he would not either interview police officers that junior or have anything to do with rookies.

Sergeants getting Captains promoted is simply beyond belief.

On the other hand I did like seeing Deming again and unlike Nathan he has hardly aged!!

Well the actresses playing Kate Beckett and Jo Martinez for a start. I would rate Captain Anderson attractive rather than beautiful. Veronica Hamel who was in Hill St Blues was a stunner from yester year.

It is interesting I cannot think of any pommies yet they are better at acting and in better series. Could be the result of romantic scenes not being part of the main script in pommy series.

not just in Castle but in others like forever female detectives would not be allowed to have flowing wavy locks. It would have to be in a ponytail ( which Beckett was very bad at) or a bun for safety reasons

I have written about this before but will do so again.

How did the fandom see Castle? I think only a minority saw him as a ladies man. Even the lovely lady from Writing on the Castle Walls did not agree he was a ladies man and she is/was the foremost Marlowe apologist you could get.

Let us go through why he was not in no terms of importance.

Castle is not charming,

He has no idea of social mores,

He is a terrible dresser ( takes after his mum)

He had 5 possible long tern relationships BEFORE Beckett

Women manipulate him not the other way round.

Few women could take a day off in the USA merely to have sex with him.

He has a daughter who would dislike him intensely if he was off having sex instead of being with her.

First question is easy. When should we try for children. Just remember they are no spring chickens. The longer they put this off the greater the risks. Aslo remember Beckett has been on birth control since at least 18 so it would take longer than usual for her to get pregnant.

I have always argued it would make sense if when they discuss this ( and of course absurdly this is NEVER EVER done) Beckett says to Castle give me a year to discover my mother’s murder if no answer they we try for children

Why do you think the Captain is so attractive. how is she better than Lisbon in the Mentalist?

This is obviously a wind up.

The Captain is or should I say was the most attractive female at the Station. Not smoking hot but beautiful.

Her main problem as with almost all the cast and most certainly the actresses is they are not the right age.

The Captain looks say 35 when she should be 45. Both female TOs although gorgeous are clearly closer to 35 than 30. Way too old.

Nathan’s character if anything is older than the gruff sergeant but it appears the other way round.

Why a Captain would ride with a rookie when both are inexperienced only the writers would know.

Nathan’s character is given the number of a highly successful business women. Just remember he is a mere rookie. Totally believable.

Could have been a good series but let down by silly mistakes. does not anyone in the USA do even cursory research!!

I’m not sure what more I can add but here goes.

The concept is good. Retraining for a new career is a good subject however in this case we have too many questions.

Nathan’s character. I am almost contemptuous of this character just like Castle.

Why you ask?

. Firstly he is either just divorced or in the proceedings of being divorced yet he is supposedly in a relationship with a woman let us say should be 20-25 years younger than he. Talk about getting someone on the rebound.

The woman who is not that attractive looks in her mid 30s but cannot be. If she is a rookie then she is in the 20-25 age group. I would sack him just for poor judgement. No man his age would do such a thing .Most men who get discovered take a LONG time to get over it but not this idiot!

Secondly he is/was a builder. Unless his business went out of business then he is giving up a lot of money to become a rookie cop.

Thirdly building is a trade. you do not go to University to learn how to become one.

Fourthly a man his age and experience should have a lot more worldly wisdom than any of his uninformed comrades however this man does not.

As I said previously I love the Captain. Looks great and appears the right age for a ‘high flyer’ however no captain, even one who has come up through the ranks, would go out on patrol with a rookie. That is two inexperienced officers together. Forget about it. She would accompany two of the m in the patrol car.

The gruff sergeant is typical of these people since Hill St blues. I like him but his wife is smoking hot and way to young for him to be retiring more so if his daughter has just finished high school.

The older training officer ( the baddie from the mentalist) is a bit boring to me.

both the other two female training officers are very attractive. I am afraid the black one’s acting skills let her down. I do like the latino and her boyfriend. BUT they both look in their mid 30s. If they want to be detectives that should late 20s early 30s at worst.

I am not interested in either of the other two rookies. the bloke is simply boring and I admit to hating people more so women having tattoos on them!!

I might watch the first episode of season 2 but my guess is that will be it.

The series should be one I like but again is let down by poor writing and making no research whatsoever.

No series should ever imitate as accurately as possible but please at least make an effort to be reasonably accurate

That is terrible. Firstly they are the only two characters that are interesting and secondly how did it get another season.

Think about it. A man has a relationship with a woman at least half his age. Imagine what his son would say!

That is not to say the premise of the show is poor. Older people have a lot to offer any organisation.They have been there done that however the writers either cannot or do not want to show this. A shame.

I like Kyra however there were always two big setbacks to overcome to their relationship.

Firstly she had to choose between her mother and Castle. At that age it is not a hard choice. The other is Castle is clearly a person who is all over you.It can be suffocating to most ( not Beckett however ) and she went overseas to get away from Castle even though her feelings were deep.

Can I just add in her episode it was silly for her fiance’ to be jealous simply because of the time involved sine they last saw each other.

First decision is easy. Would they try to have children. They are not spring chickens. In the series Castle could have been approaching his 80s when he walked down the aisle with his daughters.

Just remember that should have been decided perhaps after they agreed to marry. I would say earlier but never mind.

Just think of when they tried. Really poor writing HOWEVER whenever I wrote about this in real time most people had no idea about this. It was the same about Beckett and her career. Being married to a multi-millionaire she did not need one but few people appreciated this pint either

I wonder if I can ask a few different questions. Do you think it is believable that Beckett was a bridesmaid so often? Why did Marlowe fail in the end? Do you have any different areas you think should have been explored in Castle? Have you re-viewed any series and liked them? Could you elaborate more on the rookie please?

Lots of questions here but I will try.

Is it believable Beckett was bridesmaid to that many women. Of course not it is typical Marlowe overkill. Beckett is not an extrovert for a start. She went to Stanford and then her mother’s murdered and she desperately tries to get he father off the drink, She joins the NYPD.

does that sound like the history of a gal so popular not one not two but even more girls she went to school with would invite her not to the wedding but to be part of the bridal procession.We also know she does not socialise at the 12th.

If you believe the Beckett is a ‘rebel/ claptrap then she would have few friends from high school. By passing the prom to go to a poetry reading is the actions of a gal 4/5ths up herself. They do not get invited to weddings let alone to be bridesmaids.

Marlowe failed because he was a bi g picture man and terrible with detail. how could a homicide detective get suspended for a lengthy period in the first episode of season 5 yet get ASKED to be part of some national security organisation.How could Castle be described a a man good at detail in season one yet the very next season Beckett says he has the attention span of a cockerspaniel.! Continuity was a huge problem with the series ans that comes right back at him

I suspect his writing of a love story was flawed for reasons other for not knowing how it should proceed however I simply do not know the reason for that.

Different areas that should have been explored.

Flashbacks for both Castle and Beckett. Why his two marriages failed for him. As for Beckett explore why she was so hard on married men who cheated on their wives and who scorned her or her flashback also on that night he mother died. Perhaps she had ab argument with her thus why she was waiting with her father rather than being with her.

When they get together they agree to try and find out who was responsible for her mother’s death. She takes a year off but is still attached to the NYPD. They not only get Bracken but also 3XK with Jackson Hunt’s ( large) assistance.

Beckett then resigns from the MYPD and has children. Whilst the children are at school murders follow them and they attempt to solve them. This would be the last season.

I have been re-watching the Mentalist with my two sons.I am really enjoying it and our Simon Baker is outstanding in it.

As for the Rookie. I am sorry but Nathan’s role bores me. Let us be generous and say he is 50. why would a women half his age want to be in a relationship with him? how does he he such a wealthy mate he can live in such a swish house for nothing!

As I said previously I do like the Captain but she is a tad too young to be captain. I would like more background on her.I also like his training partner however she appears to me to be a similar age to the captain.Again I would like more background.

I tape the series on the hard drive and fast forward it only watch it when either of the two above are in the scene.

a few questions on Beckett if I may.would she be popular ( and Castle for that matter?) In what outfit did she look the best? Should have she been punished in season 6 for her behaviour in the final arc od season 5

I answer any questions people ask courteously.

Firstly Castle although you want Beckett.

Castle would be the font of all jokes at the 12th.

A ladies man in the pages of the press who is anything but at the 12th. A ladies man who follows Beckett like an unwanted dog is a joke. This would be exacerbated by Castle’s seeming allowing Beckett to do anything she likes makes Castle look like a desperate man.

On Beckett she would be unpopular for a number of reasons.

Firstly her treatment of Demming would make her very unpopular with colleagues in robbery and very probably the lieutenant.

Her weak acceptance of being a inexperienced ‘bodyguard for a multi-billionaire, her acceptance of a job in Washington instead of staying in New York. Beckett getting back her old job in charge of homicide after she had resigned from NYPD and then been sacked. Her acceptance of going undercover when again she had no experience. Her acceptance of holidays from battling detectives when she is the wife of a multi-millionaire. She does not turn up to Precinct social functions yet is at ease on TV etc.

Her promotion when she clearly was not qualified. Just remember in a number of these issues she has set a precedent, a dangerous one at that for other officers.

what outfit. The one she almost wore to the launch of the first Nikki Heat book. I must add It was totally against what she would wear. That blue dress did highlight all of Beckett’s female ‘assets’!

Yes Beckett should have been punished. Remember Marlowe punished Castle after season 2 yet he did nothing wrong. In this instance Beckett’s behaviour is appalling yet Castle rewards her with a marriage proposal. Very strange.

Why they married is very strange as neither person change their behaviour at all after getting married. In essence they are simply two individuals who have sex.They rarely talk about anything and thus come to a joint decision. As I said very strange indeed

you say the character of Gates was bad. could you elaborate a bit more please. Anything more to say about the rookie also.

When we first meet Gates we find out she was narrowly beaten by Beckett as the youngest female detective in the NYPD. This is rated so she was a high flyer.

HOWEVER she only makes Captain when she is either in her late 50s if you are generous or in her 60s if you are realistic.Given she came from internal affairs this is unusual. you need great attention to detail in internal affairs as well a very good understanding of all aspects of policing.

We can therefore only assume she was lieutenant a long time in internal affairs and only got to be Precinct Captain because she was close to retirement and people felt sorry for her.

When we meet her she is simply a bureaucrat.To me this means she lacks confidence which again supports the theory she was no good at all in leadership. She shows this in spades in all the seasons we see her.

I ignore the last season as no-one as incompetence as Gates would ever get promoted. This is given added credence given no-one with Beckett’s record would ever get a promotion!

About the Rookie. Nathan is looking quite old. That he gains such a young girlfriend is absurd. His partner and the Captain are babes that I would like to know the back story about.

Reasons

1) Castle and Beckett get together yet not even once do they ever discuss the elephant in the room. His two divorces and reasons why. Rather essential questioning for a one and done gal I would have thought. Indeed not once in the entire series does she inquire of Castle of his divorces.She never even follows up on Meredith’s assertions. This makes Beckett even worse than a bimbo.

2)how about Beckett telling Castle of how his books got her through her mother’s death. She told this to Sorensen after five minutes of going out with him but NEVER Castle.

3)They go away for a weekend together at his place at the Hamptons. This is usually a prelude to either living together as a couple or getting ,married but again no followup.

Can I add two other problems of this episode. First no cop can guess she is going with Castle. second Castle took other women to the Hamptons simply for sex.

Lastly (I will keep it short) the final arc. As my youngest son asked when where , how and why did Beckett change from an idealistic detective to an ambitious career driven woman. The same when she miraculously changes back again next season.

Castle when asking Beckett to marry him says whatever you decide. WRONG. It is whatever WE decide if you are a couple.

I am not even going to get going on how absurd it is for an organisation involved in national security to offer a job to a mere detective who has ONLY worked in homicide and never had an official partner and in the SAME year had been suspended for going rogue!!!

I have not seen anything about what Stana has done. My pommy mate captain cook has and thought it not very good. He noted little chemistry in the series.

I have seen the Rookie a few times involving Nathan.

I did not think it was very good either. The chemistry between him and his love interest was non-existent and I wanted to know more about some of the other characters such as the Captain and his ‘partner.

Nathan playing a 40 someone when clearly he is a 50 someone is also a bit absurd.

I have to say I predicted as much beforehand.
