Iām writing on essay on gender roles in brown families (Iām a desi girl), but im prepping my info and Iām kinda stuck on what to write for guys concerning expectations and duties when growing and when married. I have some stuff but not as much as I have for girls. I just wanted to hear your thoughts. Thank you šš½
hello my peach I know you sent this ages ago so Iām sorry for the v late reply. if you already finished & submitted your essay I hope that it went extremely well and that you made an excellent score!! if you havenāt finished it yetā¦ uh here are some of my observations (yāall feel free to add more)
expectations while growing up:Ā
bad behavior during childhood is excused bcĀ āthey are just kids and will grow out of itā (fabulous way to avoid parental duties)Ā
allowed to be naughty, rambunctious, etc. while girls are discouraged from the same playfulness lest they get hurt or ruin their outfitsĀ Ā
usually have later curfews or no curfews compared to their female counterparts whose social activities are closely monitoredĀ
allowed to have girlfriends, and even encouraged to sometimesĀ
as long as they bring home good grades, nothing else matters. all negative behavior is allowed.Ā
no home training, not expected to clean their rooms, help with food, clean dishes, pick up after themselves, iron or wash their own clothesĀ
never obligated to come greet guests or have any kind of mannersĀ
do not have to lift a finger around the house because they are encouraged to focus on their schoolwork, while their female counterparts are expected to keep up with housework and academics simultaneouslyĀ
honestly there arenāt very many expectations or duties placed on them the way there are on girlsĀ
after growing up, adulthood expectations, I guess:Ā
settling down from their carefree party lifestyle to become Real Men Finally even though they have Not been primed for this At All, EverĀ
this means getting a decent paying stable job so that they can provide for their familyĀ
even if they donāt have a decent paying job or have any other aspect of their lives together, they are Still considered suitable husband materialĀ
so really the expectations are Low As HellĀ
finally they have to get married to a respectable girl that they have to keep in line (read: abuse in some capacity or another) in order to maintain respect and keep up the facade of being religious enough, well off enough, competent enough, etc.Ā
