Vidal time. His big wet eyes and loser boy personality have captivated me.
A competitive chess player in the 1850s, Vidal is a chess prodigy grappling with a very awkward late pubescence and an ego just slightly too big for his skinny frame. The migraines don't help. Coming from a rough background he staunchly refuses to acknowledge, the only thing he cares about is winning - and getting as far away from Bohemia as possible.

His outfit is a real one, pictured here in La Mode in 1830, though with some little modifications for fun. Curtains on a fireplace sure is like, a choice.
I've been working on a piece about Graeme currently so here's an answer for him.
A small fact about them: He takes his tea milky with one sugar. Tetley, if you have it.

There's something about Cuthbert which is very specifically maternal. It's in this strange intersection of Dom, drag mother, and army officer which finds him caring for his lovers by taking their burdens from them in these small domestic ways - a bow tied, boots laced, hair fixed - Don't worry, I've got it for you, but in the same breath, Mother knows best.
My friend and fellow writer @daddyfuckinlonglegs and I have talked about this with regard to older male military officers in middling or lower ranks, and we call it 'mother-henning' - obviously not all of them are like this, but as a role it seems to attract people like this. Cuthbert was an infantry major, and functionally, apart from the operational part of that job, it involved a lot of herding around adolescent men who had never really been outside of home/school before, let alone out of England. There's an aspect to military conditioning which is hammering a person into the mould of soldier, but there's also a necessary exchange of trust. An officer must be trusted by their troop to be looking out for the troop's best interests, and I've seen them worry terribly over their little chickens, made even stronger when they don't have a family of their own.
In a dominance and submission sense, this 'service' can appear submissive, but the effect is very much to make the submissive feel helpless and dependent, even with a side of humiliation, and asks them to trust the dominant (Cuthbert) entirely. The two worlds, of military superiority and sexual dynamic, often overlapped for Cuthbert when he was an officer as he was a chronic fraterniser. Now he's a civilian, but both lie so deep within him they're practically inexorable.
So Cuthbert quickly clicks back into domestic mode when someone needs comfort. He makes the tea, slides the bed warmer in under the sheets, fixes medication, sets out your clothes and even helps you dress, silly boy. He'll also help you out of them... don't fuss with those buttons now, he's got them for you, darling.
