In 1968, Donald Albert Hall passed away in San Diego California. He was survived my one son and his wife Elizabeth Hall. During a maintenance stop during the flight of the Douglas World Cruisers! Each had a city name, but the cowling is off so that they can do maintenance on the oil cooled engine. Grandfather took a series of photographs. It is a mystery regarding what his part was in this around the world flight, commissioned by the US Army Air corps in 1925. Engineer onboard! Jack Northrop designed these, and had been peers with Grandfather when they worked together in Santa Monica. That plane is one of five DWC that the US Army commissioned to be the first circumnavigation of the globe by air, just prior to grandfather designing the Spirit of St Louis. This is a wooden model that was made to test in a wind tunnel! After building the spirit of st. Louis and becoming a famous engineer, grandfather patented a brand new design for a fully movable tail surface. If you notice the tail surface is much bigger than in any airplane of the time. It acts/is like a stabilator because it was fully movable. Was he the inventor?
