My second entry into Artfight this year. I love that people include their pets as attackable characters, so for revenge for an attack against my own pet duck, I had to attack EnotaEnotovna's pets in return!

My first entry into Artfight this year. I don't often draw dinosaurs, but I'm pretty happy with how this turned out. This was done for LandShaarrk of their character Mud, a dilophosaurus wetherilli.
Happy Redwall Day! 🐭⚔️
This was originally for a Google Doodle project to commemorate Brian Jacques' birthday! Drew Matthias wielding Martin the Warrior's sword and shield! I've always loved the Redwall series since I was in middle school. It's one of my most beloved books I've read that helped me become an artist today with my Kingzvire original art series <3
Happy birthday, Brian Jacques!!
Still mourning the Redwall adaptation we never got. From Patrick McHale leaving to Netflix just sitting on the rights... the wasted potential is insane. This world has so many incredible stories and characters that deserve to be seen. We were robbed
To add some variety to this blog, I am going to share something I did for the Ukrainian publishing house “Nebo” (nebo.booklab.publishing) last year.
Here are a few fragments of the illustrations for the third novel in the Brian Jacques' Redwall saga — "Mattimeo". Of all the books in this series, I think "Mattimeo" was the most fun to illustrate so far.
idk if anybody on here knows or reads the Redwall series but heres some Matthias and Cornflower sketchies ive done

Inktober Day 6
Martin the Warrior
Finally got this one to a scanner!
Since the neflix series doesn't seem be going anywhere can they sell the rights to make a Redwall movie to Cartoon Saloon?
Shrike Rider
Felt like drawing something vaguely Redwall-inspired.
Now for something a little more recent from me - earlier this year I rediscovered my Redwall books (I am running a tabletop rpg with cute little woodland critters as all the "people", need I say more).
I read this series way back in my middle school days until around end of high school (I dropped off the books for whatever reason) - and I wanted to get the books with the cool covers I remembered, and suddenly found there was like 20 some books entirely made?!
Anyway, I'm still going through books (Up to Rakkety Tam as of this post).
And since I've been doing a lot of drawing of anthropomorphic creatures the past couple of years...
A FIRE HAS BEEN LIT AND I CANNOT STOP DRAWING MICE (and their friends).
-------------------------------------
TL;DR on the ART: These were some of my first doodles of Martin, Gonff and Dinny (Mossflower is my favorite of the books), and the larger pic is their refined versions.
"Blessings of Wintres-Cyning to all! May the winds sing sweet and low and the snows blanket in your den in warmth. May your sleep be deep and bring you restful comfort. May you treat the company you keep with vibrant tales of yore, and be treated in return this season!"
When I was creating tapestry designs a while back, I would take a design and run it through various color variations. The palette I came up with for this one has to be sort of spliced together between my "Winter Ice" palette for the outer frame, and "Rose Field" for the inner artwork. I wanted this iteration to feel a bit like you were outside a window in the frosty cold, looking in to a warm, candlelit room where you might find a scholarly mouse writing wonderous tales of humble abbey mice, warlord rats, otherworldly guardian spirits, meteoric swords, monstrous serpents, and good triumphing over evil 😉
Forgive Me This Burden
This is an older piece of mine that I thought I'd share.
I believe Martin would have been there at the moment Matthias took up his belt and shield; there to pass the torch to his successor. Martin would wish the role of Warrior of Redwall to be given to anyone without careful consideration. It would not be an easy task. The Abbey Warrior risks everything to protect Redwall, the Woodlanders, and so many others. It's not as glamorous as you might think. Taking a life is something you can't just forget, nor should it be forgotten, lest your lose yourself in the process. It would, and SHOULD, be a heavy burden to bear. These Abbey Warriors are called upon to sacrifice everything, even themselves, so that others need not. I don't doubt for a second that Old Methuselah knew exactly how Martin felt too, seeing his young friend taking on such a dangerous role. Both hoping and wishing the best for the new champion of their order.
I hope to revisit this piece someday. I really like it, but I see a lot of places for improvement.
a postcard I drew for Redwall Cook zine
I’ve just started diving into the Redwall book series, so here is a little drawing of Matthias to celebrate finishing book one!
All I've ever wanted since I was a wee dibbun was a complete map of the world of Redwall. So I made one :D
I took photos of all of the maps at the start of every book, photoshopped them into their approximate sizes and positions. Then filled in any blanks in the map by making it look more or less like fantasy England. And then skimmed through every book making sure I missed as few details as possible.
Once it was all done I had it printed onto some fabric and made a wall hanging :D
This took FOREVER. I started the project years ago and eventually got around to finishing it like, a month ago? Anyway I am very pleased with the outcome.
And here is the high res files for anyone looking to zoom in on all of the tiny details, or have their own map printed :D Go live out your Redwall dreams like I have!
OKAY. BUT IT JUST DAWNED ON ME.
Can you imagine Matthias’s reaction, learning about Martin’s childhood, younger life, enslavement, Rose’s and Felldoh’s deaths? About Martin’s mother and father? Like he probably had only learned about Mossflower Martin and didn’t know about Marshank Martin until after the wars with Cluny. I could see Abbot Mortimer trying to shield Matthias from that kind of painful knowledge and then when Cluny came, Methuselah never had the chance to actually explain further in depth about Martin’s life to Matthias, and Matthias just found out on his own? Like he was probably shifting through some of Methuselah’s scrolls and happened upon a scroll recording on the stories that Aubretia and Bultip told and can you imagine the utter heart ache he felt for his hero? I also totally see Matthias actually visiting Martin’s tomb and bringing his grave dozens of roses and just being down there for hours apologizing to Martin for the shitty beginning Martin had and thanking him for everything Martin did for Redwall.
And not just Matthias; I feel that any Redwaller who founds out this part of Martin’s history just has to sit down and weep a bit.
Not only that, but the intense heartache he would feel when some of the same terrible things that happened to his hero then happened to his son.
Just going right for the jugular, aren't you @lostmousemaid? HOLY CRAP 🤣
I can only imagine how each subsequent champion of Redwall felt learning of their predecessors and the triumphs they won and sorrows they suffered. What a heavy burden it would be to read all of their histories and know you will likely experience similar things by taking up that mantle. That's exactly what inspired this old piece of mine titled:
"Forgive Me This Burden"
To quote what I wrote about it back when I first posted it:
"I think Martin would have been there (in spirit) at the moment Matthias took up his belt and shield. There to pass the torch to his successor. I don't think Martin would wish the role of Warrior of Redwall without careful consideration. It would not be an easy task. You risk everything to be take up protection of The Abbey, The Woodlanders, and so many others. It's not as glamorous as you might think. Taking a life is something you can't just forget doing. It would be a heavy burden to bear. Sometimes it could be something you even sacrifice yourself to. I don't doubt for a second that Old Methuselah knew exactly how Martin felt too, seeing his young friend taking on such a dangerous role. Both hoping and wishing the best for the new champion of their order."
In the moment of solving the riddle and uncovering Martin's long lost tomb, Matthias must have been feeling so many things, but I think naivety would blind him to the harsh reality of the path he chose to take and the call to action he chose to heed. Excitement had yet to be tempered with fear, pain, or loss. Thus, Martin, knowing what would come to the champion of Redwall, would do anything to beg forgiveness for the burden of the title.
Makes me envision a Redwall version of this video. Imagine all the different warriors, who have come and gone throughout the seasons, telling Matthias, "History has its eyes on you." Augh! It'd be sooo gooooood! 😭
Anyhoodles, parts of this topic have actually led me to working on creating a one-shot campaign (Using the Woodlander system from @malimarthemage) that examines the repercussions of Martin withdrawing all ties to Noonvale after losing Rose. Now I'm just waiting for the physical book so I can double-check my work and playtest it.
