I enjoy when fan artists give Kamukura pretty privilege in their artwork. But I can't help but imagine how genuinely discomforting it would be to stand next to someone like him, who has gone through what he did.

In the anime, his expression is neutral, but the way he analyzes and picks apart his surroundings, his eyes must always be wide and owl-like. He could have been in that laboratory for months or years, the sun never touching his skin making him pale and veiny. His eye bags must have eye bags from how uncomfortable it would be to sleep in a bed that is just the mattress in a large cold room presumably in his suit. How painful it would be to be in a sterile environment, only touched by gloves and spoken to like a tool.

Constantly needing surgeries and tests to achieve this deity-like status, an expectation far too high for anyone. His body covered in precise scars as they mold him, unable to form recognizable expressions as his emotions are repressed. His walk would be stiff as he claws his fingers from stress. Fidgeting and twitching in his efforts to satiate his boredom. His long hair he is forced to maintain because cutting it would be pointless, and it would grow back anyway.

All the while, Kamukura is so naive that he calls the scientists and surgeons who abused him his 'teachers'.

Kamukura would look like agony in person.

I do wonder sometimes, if neither of them had become 'Brothers', how they might have fared better. . .

Taka, obviously, would not have been as vulnerable to Celeste's machinations had he not been mourning his Kyoudai. . .

But Mondo? Perhaps without the boon of his new hard won friendship wih Taka, he might not had the confidence to agree so soon to help with Chihiro's training. Deeply unsettled and antsy, newly preoccupied that his worst secret will be revealed, he may have stalled just long enough to have avoided that tragedy.
