super #swag i had to do this but unfortunately, with school starting back up and my abundance of overwhelminย (read: invalid) stresses,ย i havenโt found the right time to gain muse up for my sun taeyong :( iโm so sorry to everyone i plotted/threaded with (and really hope that i can figure out some way to return, since i truly love it here), but for now this is sof saying...
taeyong wasnโt someone who expressed care easily. or, for that matter, any emotion other than unbridled anger. but heโs aware of this, and whether or not he works on it is his choice.
today, heโd chosen that itโd be just the right time to approach the obscure, honestly fearful looking intelligence sector of the building. covered in sleep deprived looking maniacs, perched over their computers with questionable posture as they type away.
god, did any of them know how to tidy a desk? find an organisational drawer shop and go ham, or heโs sure one of them will die by suffocation โ ร la paperwork. and what is with that stenchโฆ itโs like the smell of the dumpsters of his college dorms, filled with moulding ramen containers and coffee cups. this is why mother nature is on her way out.
speaking of takeout, taeyong wasnโt here for just any reason. no, he could tell by the few curious glares thrown his way that he wasnโt very welcome here anyway. his purpose was kind of skewed, but he knew heโd promised a certain code fiend lunch, and he was going to get just that. he hadnโt eaten anything in the past day (save the muesli bar forced upon him by yongjin, left on his desk beside a note reading โeat up. โ yong #1โ).
so, here he was. hand on jihaeโs head, leather gloves ready to ruffle his fringe to get him up asap. his eyes tracked over the glowing interface before the older agent, eyes aching at the brightness of the screen.
Woo Taeyong?โ His voice sounds soft and calming as usual, and he smiles at the younger male once they make eye contact.ย โCan you come with me for a moment?โ
the past few days hadnโt been taeyongโs best. he tied first for the weekly ranks (hardly an admirable score), his brother took leave to visit home and decided sending through picture after picture of all his escapades would be taeyongโs salvation. heโd never admit it, but he was easily homesick, and this did nothing except for shove his face in the fact.
on top of all this, it was the piercing words of his latest instructor that really stuck out to him โ โsure, heโs working hard, but that doesnโt mean heโll always succeed.โ
no one needed to remind him he was the fucking worst, but it certainly wasnโt any help hearing it from the person who was supposed to help him thrive. get better. all taeyong can do is be good at things; if he isnโt even that, whatโs the use?
obviously, this ended sourly. the day previous, heโd started his morning with the usual warm-up duels each trainee was so accustomed to. pitching them against one another always got them riled up, after all;ย apparently, too much so.ย
had that guyโs pathetic face been any further to the right, his nose wouldโve been crushed - not the hard wooden floor and taeyongโs right palm. at least he escaped being under house arrest again.
this was, on the promise heโd talk to one of the psychologists. ugh. his head throbbed even louder with frustration when the door to the common room opened, revealing a man with clean-cut style and perfect posture. of course.
โthatโs my name,โ he mutters, standing, avoiding what heโs sure is the scrutinizing gaze of his peers around him by letting his fringe hang over his tired eyes. he walks past the man nonchalantly, tucking his hands in his pockets as he flashes a soft smile.
๐ โ how do you dress outside work? whatโs your preferred attire?
for someone who was supposed to be an art buff in his heyday, taeyongโs style is frustratingly lacking. whether it be his frugality or insecurities, no one knows, but he is far from being a fashion icon. regardless of the weather, youโll often find him in long sleeved shirts and sweaters, accompanied by long slacks or jeans. no designer to be seen, no labels to brag about โ he lives pretty simply โ overall, heโs in desperate need of a makeover.
๐ฅ โ whatโs your greatest fear?
taeyongโs foremost fear is being defenseless. the violent and aggressive tendencies he displays during training stem from a lack of control over his emotions and, you guessed it, fear. being stuck in the corner of that alley, basking in the sun of a late afternoon, he was entirely capable of screaming for help; in his mind, he was accountable. he recognises this as a weakness, and his greatest frustration is the fact heโs unable to shake his sporadic, frenzied paranoia. ย
๐ โ how often do you get sick? how do you feel about doctors?
heโs always had a robust immune system, with strong bones to boast. surprisingly, taeyong has never had a broken bone due to accident. his parents pin this on his tarzan like childhood, wherein heโd often come home chewing on nondescript leaves and bark, never to catch the flu or even a cold. in fact, his only encounter with doctors were those caring for him following his assault. many of these memories have been purposefully lost, but he holds a steadfast appreciation for the efforts they went through to keep himโฆ well, you knowโฆ alive.
๐ช โ whatโs your relationship with your family? do you keep in touch?
taeyong is (ย proudlyย ) the epitome of the sims โfamily orientedโ personality trait. his mother is the pedal to his bike, helping him push forward through everything, if only to experience that sweet victory that comes with his resilience. his father and older brother act as both the brakes and gears respectively. you know, the features he often forgets are even there. they rev him up - perhaps more than his mom endorses - and bring him back down to earth when required. finally, the two youngest โ twins, and the apples of his eye, are the wheels. without them, heโd be lost; a shell of his whole self. he speaks to them whenever time allows through sms and spontaneous calls, as all three of them are still technically students. his brother, living nearby, is his most frequent contact. he calls his parents thrice a week, and keeps up with his grandparents through emails and photos of his dormitoryโs view.
๐ท ย โ do you like drinking alcohol? if so, what is your favourite liquor?
in a surprising revelation, itโs been discovered recently that taeyong has never consumed a drop of alcohol. despite his brotherโs offers of a fake i.d during high school, and even the adventurous escapades his friends would partake in at college, he was always terrified of losing control. of course, this only worsened with time, so heโs just opted for staying sober instead of losing his right mind in front of all his colleagues.
the feeling of marble against his skin was one heโd never get used to.
you see, having grown up in a house built sometime in the 70s, there was plenty a wooden surface for taeyong to run into (rather comically, his father might add). that, and linoleum that was overly antagonistic, providing rude awakenings for any innocent passerby in a pair of socks. but never a trace of marble.ย
the constantly clean, well maintained, contemporary design of the dormitories was one of the larger selling points of this job. the white walls, with smooth plaster periodically interrupted by an abstract painting or memorial photo of any and all past agents.
โone day, thatโll be me.โ he thought, hair falling over his eyes for the umpteenth time โ maybe he did need hair tiesโฆ or a haircut. the former sounded cheaper, though. yeah, heโll drop by the drug store tomorrow.
this scene was placed in the ground floorโs illustrious staff kitchen, taeyong pictured with crossed legs as he read the latest issue of doukyuusei intently: the picture of sophisticated grace. arms bare to accustom the ever warming environment, colorfully patterned skin breathing for the first time in what felt like eons.
as always, though, his hands stayed beneath the lightweight gloves that concealed him from the curiosity of strangers, ever pale fingers used to the extra heat at this point.
the door creaked open conspicuously slow, but his attention kept steeled on the page he was reading. his chopsticks poised in one of his poor colleagueโs leftovers momentarily before returning to his mouth, just as carelessly as they had before.
heโd feel guilty had this not become an unfortunate habit at this point; no one ever stocked the cupboard, and even if they had, itโs as if heโd realistically have the time or energy to cook. this was good enough. at least he was eating, right?
โsorry if you needed the bench. the table is a great alternative, pinky swear.โ he issued the regular disclaimer without a second to spare, no sort of conviction anywhere in his tone. if it wasnโt lee kiyoung, who he highly doubted even knew of this roomโs existence, why should he care?
ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย โ bosses keeping you here? โ he finds himself asking. so what if itโs just a deflection over the fact that heโs been caught spitting out cold coffee? โ or did you just get lost on your way back to the dorms?ย โ
taeyongโs mind was no longer working at a mile a minute. earlier this evening โ roughly 9pm โ heโd felt at the peak of his energy bank. heโd worked through all due assignments and then some, enjoying the sweet sound of his peers leaving; one after the other, all settling for an early night in.ย
early night in? pf. no, not for woo taeyong. the evaluation that morning had left him in a state of infinite bliss. alas, this would be proven wrong not even 12 hours later. nevertheless, the words โranking firstโ werenโt so much the matches to his flame. the notion of beating everyone else? well, therein lay his pride - and consequently, his righteousness.ย
if he were to become the best, there was no time to waste on a good nightโs sleep. wasnโt that the line? at this low point, he wasnโt so sure. the thick-rimmed glasses heโd adorned on his first visit to the nis agency (and all throughout his college career) were a shameful, cheap tool he used to isolate himself from the outside. what that meant, he couldnโt truly explain. but, it was enough of an excuse for the meantime.
pushing them further up the bridge of his nose, he noted he was too tired to even chuff at the fact they had absolutely no effect on his perfectly normal vision.ย
โvery cool, kanye.โ he muttered to himself, checking his reflection in the well-polished cupboards behind him, trying desperately to enjoy the chamomile tea heโd made only minutes before. the boiling water had burnt his tongue thrice already, and honestly, he was getting used to the sensationโฆ the caffeine had little effect, obviously.
he feels the ground move as someone walks past his still figure, paying no mind as he let the steam create a film of water over his nose and cheeks. he wondered if it made them turn pink? like the pink of a soft blush. or red, maybe? like a lasting sunburn with nowhere near as much charm.ย
his head is drawn up by the sound of said someone spitting out their beverage. he lets it float, head tilting as he tries to tune in and actually understand any word the manโs lips formed around.ย
โuhโฆ somethingโฆ something like that.โ his voice is louder than he remembers it being. how curious. โiโm unsure if my legs could carry me that far, anyway. and you? not a fan of lukewarm.. dirt water?โย
heโd never been fond of coffee, the beverage a necessary evil like many other trades of adulthood, so the term โdirt waterโ was used passionately, and often.ย
๐ผ โ how was your childhood? do you have a favourite memory?
woo taeyong was, unlike many of his peers, privileged in the sense he had an extremely rich childhood. filled with love, and all the experiences that money canโt get you; spoiled in the way that he was treasured and treated equally. he was a very rough and tumble kind of kid, constantly getting himself into sticky situations and, consequently, became quite good at wriggling out of trouble. having three siblings made for a robust and intense personality that he still treasures, the โwootae clanโ (as they referred to themselves) always resolute. this has taught him to live loyally and binds him to younger agents immensely, feeling similarly protective over them as he is with his younger brother and sister.
his favourite memory is a rather odd one, honestly. despite such a fruitful and happy upbringing, taeyong took the fall of being the most attention seeking child. constantly grappling at his older brotherโs legs, sitting between the twins and insisting they write their christmas lists together โ the whole nine. on his 13th birthday, he roped his closest friends and entire family into a class to paint a live model. suffice to say, he did not get what he had expected. ever since, heโs been traumatised by the family tradition of reminding him each year, on his birthday.
๐จ โ how do you spend your free time? do you have any hobbies?
other than his extensive gem collection, taeyong has recently taken up the questionable hobby of imitating his colleagues. not just in a humorous sense,ย though, asย he also takes on the traits of theirโs he could find beneficial in certain situations. heโs no chameleon, but there is certainly something invigorating about the idea of (eventually) beating someone at their own game.
๐ค โ what are your sleeping habits? how many hours of sleep do you get in a day?
more often than not, taeyong keeps to a pretty average sleep routine. heโll be asleep before 11pm, waking up around 6:30am the next day to his alarm (currently set to ์ฌ๋์ ํ๋ค). he likes the whole โearly bird gets the wormโ mentality and usually takes a good hour to meditate, warming up as the sun rises. he falls into r.e.m extremely easily, having kept a dream diary since he was about 10 in order to lucid dream that follows him wherever he goes.
๐จ โ how do you spend your free time? do you have any hobbies?
after joining the nis, heโs spent almost all of his time working. he firmly believes that heโll reap the rewards of resting once heโs graduated, which is a toxic mindset, but he makes it work. this being said, taeyong still enjoys all of his old hobbies (the arts being exempt from this rule), specifically prone to buying any and all gems from street vendors in passing. his collection has slowed in itโs growth, but that doesnโt mean he isnโt still an avid believer in the healing power of crystals. this includes the tourmaline always tucked in one of his pockets as a โpsychic shieldโ that he believes grounds his energy. whether thats true or not, remains to be seen.
๐ฃ โ whatโs the most unforgettable memory you have since you joined the agency?
when he first got into a bout of trouble he couldnโt wiggle his way out of, he was placed under suspension by his tutors. during these three days of utter boredom, he received a handwritten letter signed by a certain โj. parkโ. he marvelled at the handwriting for an entire hour, fascinated by the penmanship, eventually biting the bullet and reading its contents. what entailed was the tale of an anonymous trainee, of taeyongโs likeness, whoโd displayed similarly destructive behaviour and, consequently, had himself and 3 of his peers killed on their first official mission. a rude awakening, to say the very least; it was the first time heโd ever felt like the villain. he made a hand written reply, as is customary, simply apologising and thanking the sender for the opportunities heโd been given. since then, heโs felt an even greater need to impart justice on both the nis and himself.
๐ฑ โ whatโre your eating habits? which cuisines do you like?
taeyong often forgets to eat, in the name of overworking and body image issues, though itโs usually the former. when he does eat, itโll be a home cooked meal heโs prepared for himself and his brother. since moving out, heโs been missing his company and consequently scrambles for any excuse to interrupt with a pot of budae jjigae and his spritely, youthful attitude. growing up in jeju-do in a less affluent family, heโs used to the low rent versions of any and all korean dishes, and usually leans toward hometown cuisine over anything else. this is primarily because of how expensive foreign food seems, and the fact heโs never really found time to investigate the wonders of italian.
๐โโ๏ธ โ how often do you exercise? whatโs your favourite sports activity?
as a trainee, taeyong works out daily, regardless of his own exercise routine. besides his usual, rigorous training regime, he spends as much time as he can in the dormitory gym. he is a big fan of the elevation mask - although it makes him look utterly insane - since HIIT has become a little tedious. heโll usually begin with a 5k, then sprints, and depending on the day heโll alternate between round circuits and boxing. heโs also planning to take up gymnastics in the summer to increase his flexibility before he enters the st program. his guilty pleasure is hot yoga, and almost always defends the cult-ish vibe as a passionate fan of the meditation and grit that they partake in during classes.
๐ถ โ have you had any pets? do you have one right now?
his family never could afford to care for their own pet, but all of the children expressed a great affinity for animals anyway, weak-willed when it came to a pair of puppy eyes. this wasnโt helped by his motherโs volunteer work at the local sanctuary, where his two youngest siblings practically grew up. the two twins, taerin and taemin, would always bring back injured birds and sickly seeming cats theyโd find on their adventures and as a result of this, taeyong has an ingrained soft spot for rescue animals. currently, his older brother owns a pet tarantula named โtaeyiโ โ the fifth sibling, if you will. whenever taeyong house sits he lets her roam freely, whether thatโs across his knees or the pots and pans stacked messily above the kitchen bench.
his feet are planted beneath him, firm against the rough, carpeted ground as if they were the only thing keeping him from floating off into the atmosphere. though, after training for however many hours, that wasnโt the wildest thing taeyong could fathom happening. hell, heโd taken enough ibuprofen to see stars at this point.
funnily enough, heโd never really liked medicine โ not really funny, as it really made for his interesting temperament โ and yet, he still stocked up like a paramedic every morning, without fail.
โto be prepared..โ he hears the voice of his older brother clear as day, โis a truly magical thing.โ. the last time heโd heard that was the night before he took his college entrance exams, gifted to him beside a plate of cold hotteok (just how he liked it). to think anyone could be more elusive than himself, and yet that loserโ
heโs shaken out of his daydreaming by an intrusive thigh shoving him across the bench, no regard for the stern look replacing his usually soft, rounded smile.
he looks down, tearing off his compression bandages to allow some kind of blood flow back into his arms. his numb fingers dip beneath the sweat-stain branded bandages tightly wound around his entire hand, slugging off the material before reaching for his sanitizer.
conveniently, today had to be the day heโd left the obnoxiously pink bottle at his bedside table.
โchill the fuck out.โ he reminds himself, sitting on top of his hands to conceal the incessant shaking that (thank god) hadnโt stopped for the past seven years. cursed, he mumbles to himself, iโm cursed.
๐ผ โ how often do you listen to music? if so, what are your favourite songs?
taeyong has an affinity for wreaking soft and subtle havoc around the workplace, so you will almost always find him playing music unnecessarily loud when heโs training. meanwhile, he happily sings (read: slurs) along to the top 100 dance pop for the extra volume and, consequently, has quite the reputation for his unorthodox music taste.ย
some favouritesย include: sweet but psycho โ ava max, dental careย โ owl city, chocolate discoย โ perfume.ย ย

hello everyone !! iโm sof (she/her, utc+12). instead oโ rambling abt my boring old self, i will introduce u to my sun woo taeyong, a jeju island native and current yonhi-dong resident. below the cut is a brief tl;dr on nisโ future golden boy. his bio is here, profile here and a plot page will be up soon !ย
for the meantime, like this post and iโll flip u through a im so we can start plottin !ย
tw: violence
freshly 24 and suitably arrogant
coupon fiend first, human second
left brained and abstract leaning but finds the most comfort in conformity (just unresolved trauma things)
very good at whatever he does and he absolutely knows it
hand to hand combat type of guy, despite his daily aiming practice, as he sees it as more of a viable defense tacticย
loyal and loving to a fault, so he usually avoids interdependence altogether
but would wholeheartedly die for all his colleagues and what (he believes) they stand for
too much determination and too little respect for his seniors
history wise,ย
taeyong grew up in a lower class household, only familiar with tight-knitย family and friend relationships
has always been entirely reliant on his older brother, mother and two younger siblings for all emotional support which he feels extremely guilty about
was intending to attend an arts college when he graduated, being infatuated with the entire concept for years. heโd spend hours huddled on his balcony waiting for his paintings to dry, genuinely entertained by every step of the process โ a genuine first love, if you will.
this came to a screeching halt when an assault incident rendered his handsย โuselessโ (in his own terms) for about 6 months, his previous passion now clouded by a lot of hate and
you guessed it
sing it with me !
insecurityย
this trauma has left taeyong at varying levels of totally out of control and with rampant emotions he keeps under lock and key, striving for the distraction of diligent and hard work
which kinda made the double major and... โmasters of pure mathematicsโ thing a lot easier to swallow
oh, and he loves affirmation and attention.
nonetheless, heโs a big soft man who is constantly smiling for ... god knows what reason, but however he insults your muse, heโll always have a grin on his features and a spark in his eyes
in conclusion, heโs... heโs grappling with his youth, but heโs on his own merry way to healing :โ)ย ย
