If you ask that to Minjae, he’s for sure gonna talk about his last day of training. He can’t forget the happiness of finally being free from all those physical tests and practice, he’s never been good at those. He definitely only passed those tests thanks to Hajoon and he is a huge part of Minjae’s most unforgettable memory: getting drunk after their last day of training as if it was gonna make them feel better. Turned out it didn’t, Minjae passed the fuck out and got the worst headache on the next day. But it was worth it, he had so much fun with Hajoon and that is something he’s never going to forget. It was the first time he felt free to do anything.

No, Minjae doesn’t like drinking alcohol. Although sometimes he forces himself to do so, ignoring the terrible taste just so he can get affected by it, just to enjoy the sensations it brings to him ( as mentioned above ). And he’s always with Hajoon when he drinks alcohol, he hates the vodka cola that his friend orders for him but drinks it anyways.

he’s not familiar with the concept of the training room at this hour, when the crepuscule is turned into nothing but slivers of morning lights. the quiet is so still it’s almost too eerie for his liking. rich, considering how he often inhabits the space shrouded by these four walls late at nights, punching the bag until the ache comes and claims his knuckles. he’s not familiar with the concept of the training room at this hour, when the agents have yet to lay a step into the wrung silence.

he could get used to it, he thinks as he takes off his sweatshirt, heading towards a sack. clad only in his sleeveless tee and training pants, his footfalls are relatively soundless. he’s just commenced ramming his fists into the body of the bag when the privacy is ruptured. he sees hanjon from the reflection on the glass, but he doesn’t stop punching. it’s been one and a half... two weeks since he last saw that supposed best friend of his, and the rumors that whisper in the corridors have caused hansol to question a few things. still, he’s letting hajoon settle into the chamber prior to raining hajoon with inquiries. his eyes follow hajoon’s movements as he continues with his own, the aimed attacks becoming naught but a mindless act. repetitive, but addictive regardless. this catharsis of his has never ceased, for his demons never sleep either.

he only pauses when hajoon draws near enough for him to acknowledge the presence. he turns his head with a quirk of his eyebrow, looking at hajoon with his cliché interrogative expression. it’s one that hajoon would definitely understand how to decipher within the millisecond it’s given, considering just how long they’ve been closest friends to each other. he gives his words light pressures in the tone when he lilts, “i heard you’ve replaced me as your favorite sparring partner.” chuckles, however. there’s a teasing edge to his enunciation, definitely. “so, this is it? the end of us? that rune girl.”

Minjae can’t believe the question he just heard from Hajoon. Yes, he tends to call the other male dumb and silly sometimes, but he didn’t expect his friend to actually act according to that. He’s definitely not the best at hiding the things he feels, and he’s been pretty obvious about his feelings towards a certain agent — who happens to be friends with the other as well. Best friends, to be more specific. And it always surprises him that Hajoon still hasn’t noticed anything.

He knows the way he looks at Hansol is different, the way he speaks to Hansol is different than the way he speaks to other people and it is not something he can control. And lately, he’s happy that he’s been able to spend more time with the intelligence agent, and sometimes even thanks to Hajoon himself, so Minjae really doesn’t understand how he can be so blind.

“Wow, Hajoon… I knew you were dense but I didn’t think it was this much!” He says, a loud chuckle escaping from his parted lips before he takes another sip from his drink — he has already lost his count of how many glasses of alcohol he’s drank already, but it sure was enough to have him spilling every little secret he had. But his feelings aren’t a secret, Hajoon is just too blind to notice.

He chuckles again and empties his glass in one sip before he drags Hajoon to the bar with him again, for the thousandth time in that night already. Minjae isn’t the type to get drunk often, but he always loses control when he’s with friends. When he’s with Hajoon. He knows he can trust the other enough to get comfortable and drink as much as his body can take.

But that’s not his plan for that night — he feels so comfortable and so confident, that he plans on taking more steps.

“You will know eventually… Probably sooner than you expect, I think. But I don’t know— If I get out of this party on my own, then you will know soon for sure. But it’s not certain. I don’t know, I’m so drunk already…”

Haewon had been tucked into their usual booth in the cafeteria for the past five minutes, chopsticks poking distractedly at her noodles. It had only been a day since Lee Kiyoung’s speech and already the stricter security protocols had everyone on edge. It felt a lot like their new director was on a witch hunt, ready to strike down any operative that looked the least bit suspicious. Was Haewon suspicious? She sure hoped not, but her anxiety didn’t exactly take logic into account when making her nervous. And the fact that Kiyoung had essentially hinted at them all that they couldn’t trust their fellow agents wasn’t really helping. But Haewon wasn’t about to set aside her own set of morals and values because of some agency-wide witch hunt--- her friends and coworkers would have her trust until proven unworthy of it, nothing could change that.

She was brought out of her thoughts as a tray was set on the table across from her own, eyes flicking up to catch sight of a familiar face as Hajoon slid into the other side of the booth. Haewon offered the most genuine smile she could manage, given the circumstances. “You’re late, what’s up? Work stuff?” Ah, work stuff. The phrase they used to avoid having to talk about the actual work stuff that they were referring to, allowing them to pretend for a minute that none of it mattered and continue on with the conversation as if they were still those two inseparable college kids getting each other through the day. 

Except that the work stuff was starting to matter more and more lately, and after Lee Kiyoung’s speech the previous day, the work stuff might be the only thing allowing them to protect each other anymore. “So, the director’s speech--- that was, um... interesting, huh?” Haewon brought up awkwardly, finally allowing herself to shove a big bite of noodles into her mouth to silence herself.

🍱 — what’s your eating habits? which cuisines do you like?

Haewon, more than anything, enjoys a good homestyle Korean meal like her sister used to make for dinner when they were teenagers. Though, these days she doesn’t exactly have the time or patience for such a thing and usually ends up ordering takeout or heating up instant ramen way too late in the evening to even be considered dinner. That may be the greatest downside of workaholism.

📥 — how do you feel about paperwork? do you like doing it?

As pathetic as it sounds, Haewon loves paperwork. She finds file folders and stacks of paper and smooth pens to be some of the most satisfying things there is, and she genuinely feels a sense of accomplishment after every form she completes and files away. Sometimes she’ll even be happy to work late finishing up paperwork, as it creates more of a sense of purpose than going home and eating spicy ramen while watching trashy reality TV reruns.

in all the sources of ethical codes, written in rows and rows of fascinating guilt trip with the kind of eloquence that can win through any whittled wars, he lives. understood that in this counted carnage regarding the secrecies, he shouldn’t have coveted someone too well he starts swallowing the sharpened edges of his own thoughts. there are those which punish, leaving him with after midnight insomnia; he’s paralyzed from the thought downwards, having a structure similar to that of a spine except it resides in the cranium. feels like a lie, except it isn’t. feels like a truth, except it isn’t. he’s hovering in-between, having nowhere to rest his mind, so he deliberately evades the source of the inconvenience, hoping that one day he’ll awaken without its weight at the base of his skull anymore.

until running isn’t an option anymore, and he’s faced with the urge for clarity that doesn’t quite reach the expectations. in these hopes were the fade, fading. now, he has to encounter the knowledge that some feelings do not just dissipate, that there’s more than meets the eye. his solace is found in the object of this fixation, but he cannot quite pinpoint as to why. it bothers him to a great extent, considering how it just adds more onto the mountains of missing puzzle pieces in his life. but it’s not like he can just barge into the man’s office demanding answers — as if minjae would have the answers. there’s no answer to this kind of question, typically; time will tell, he’s aware. but doesn’t mean that he can just relent. so, his solution is to seek his best friend, wondering if hajoon would have a piece of advice or two.

he brings with him some chinese takeaway on a day when the missions do not extend past the working hours, arriving at hajoon’s place when he’s certain that hajoon is alone. upon being let inside, he toes his shoes off to wander towards the dining table, placing the boxes of food there. there’s not much said in advance as he still rearranges his thoughts, not knowing how to exactly kickstart this kind of conversation. he blurts it out, eventually, as he gets himself seated comfortably. a cringe emerges on his expression as he looks at hajoon. “i think i fell for someone,” he confesses. “but i don’t think it’s ethical to do so.”

it's a common misconception that the life of any person who works to uphold the law is all excitement and action with guns blazing, bullets flying, and wounds and shouting and parkour (oh my). movies and television shows get it wrong more often than not because, of course, who wants to sit there for an hour or two watching actors fill out paperwork? no one, of course, unless you join a workplace to do it yourself. that being said, there is one thing that the magic of media doesn't get wrong.

jihae hates it. it's boring and takes every ounce of his willpower to stay awake even with red bull practically streamlined into his veins. while he has never been under the assumption that it would be a thrilling task, he couldn't have ever prepared himself for how lackluster it is. to be fair, there have been a few times he's been genuinely interested in monitoring for the next asshole who thinks they can get away with their crime, but the novelty has since worn off. he'd rather sit for hours repeatedly trying to save a grandma from unintentionally selling everything, including herself, to the first email who claims they can help her save on life insurance than do this.

it's for a good cause, however, so he pushes through it.

he's got his chin resting on the upturned palm of his hand, slouching against the desk now that the quartermaster isn't here to correct his position, a yawn making it's way up and out of his throat. one glance at the time tell him it's nearing twelve in the morning. he's been at this for a couple of hours already but justice never sleeps (neither does he whenever it's anything but this). sighing, he moves to grab the monster energy can nearest him and take a long sip from it, pausing midway when the door to the data center opens. he's expecting one of the other intelligence agents, of course, but he's surprised to see hajoon instead-- moreso the agent in casual wear. in the data center.

"uh... did you get lost on the way to the gym?" he asks, sparing him another glance before his gazes focuses back on the footage in front of him.

🍼 — how was your childhood? do you have a favourite memory?

woo taeyong was, unlike many of his peers, privileged in the sense he had an extremely rich childhood. filled with love, and all the experiences that money can’t get you; spoiled in the way that he was treasured and treated equally. he was a very rough and tumble kind of kid, constantly getting himself into sticky situations and, consequently, became quite good at wriggling out of trouble. having three siblings made for a robust and intense personality that he still treasures, the ‘wootae clan’ (as they referred to themselves) always resolute. this has taught him to live loyally and binds him to younger agents immensely, feeling similarly protective over them as he is with his younger brother and sister.

his favourite memory is a rather odd one, honestly. despite such a fruitful and happy upbringing, taeyong took the fall of being the most attention seeking child. constantly grappling at his older brother’s legs, sitting between the twins and insisting they write their christmas lists together — the whole nine. on his 13th birthday, he roped his closest friends and entire family into a class to paint a live model. suffice to say, he did not get what he had expected. ever since, he’s been traumatised by the family tradition of reminding him each year, on his birthday.
