Digital Media Project Proposal
The Digital Media Project I plan to undertake will be an original piece of video production following the charity Dreams2Live4 - an organisation that helps patients of the Prince of Wales Hospital who are living with metastatic cancer [1] to fulfil their dreams. I plan to film and edit video footage that will be later uploaded and published to YouTube and then finally embedded into my blog. Dreams2Live4 wish to use the piece on their website, in presentations to possible sponsors and at fundraising events. The piece’s structure will follow that of an informative, inspiring documentary. The aim of my digital media piece is to show the emotional impact of living with chronic cancer and how contact with an organization like Dreams2Live 4 affects patients and their families. With the advancement in cancer therapies patients are having to learn to live with cancer as opposed to preparing to die - making this a very relevant and current topic. I’ll attempt to answer questions focusing on the life these people endure whilst under the control of the medicines and other medical routines that are now key in the treatment of this disease. Interviews are crucial in informative video productions therefore I plan to interview members of the committee, doctors and follow a couple of ‘dreamers’ on their journey. I plan to use filming and editing techniques that follow the appropriate documentary format. Although the current issue of cancer and the effect is has on people is gloomy, I’ll attempt to present a positive perspective on the issue.

Being computer literate and having some experience in editing video footage, will help me in this task.
Strong ties to D2L4 and previous involvement in fundraising events will give help me develop trust with the organization and access to dreamers, doctors volunteers etc.
D2L4 is keen to have this project completed so they will give me as much assistance as they can.
Don’t own nor have constant access to a digital camcorder.
All relative footage will be in Sydney that means that I’ll have to vacate my house in Bathurst in order to get footage.
My cousin is an avid user of digital camcorders and video editing software and during the holiday break can help teach me how to effectively use these tools.
D2L4 are holding a fundraising event in Bathurst next month. Key people in the organization will be here for the event.
Members of the committee/doctors are usually very busy which could make interviewing a problem.
Dreams for the people of the charity can take place throughout Australia, which makes it difficult for me to follow the story.
Because these dreamers are sick it will be difficult to time access to them as often plans need to be changed at short notice due to illness. I being in Bathurst and the Prince of Wales Hospital being in Sydney compound this.
D2L4 aims to use the piece as a marketing tool. This may cause some conflict if they try to influence the direction of the piece.
