North Texans standing up for the benefits Natural Gas brings our community, our schools, and our economy.
Voice of reason
Expectation: A “frack-free Denton” would be made possible based solely off local decisions and grassroots efforts.
Reality: After enlisting the help of national organizations such as Earthjustice, NRDC and Earthworks, Denton has theoretically sold the rights of their local advocacy campaign for $700,000.
Expectation: Current ordinance states that no fracking is allowed within a setback distance 1,200 feet.
Reality: Real Estate takes priority with a new house being built 20 feet from a PAD. “...the city’s new rules... weren’t accomplishing what the council hoped they would accomplish.” -City Council Member Dalton Gregory
Expectation: 59% of Denton permanent residents, homeowners, and businesses voted in opposition of drilling.
Reality: The landslide vote was made possible by the 51,000 University students temporarily residing in Denton.
