Hi, I saw your advent calendar event and wanted to participate, but am a bit confused by some of the info regarding it on your carrd.
Can you tell me what check ins will be like? Will mods be checking out work or is it just giving an update about how far we are in the creative process?
Regarding posting, your carrd indicates that the works will be posted both on AO3 and social media. How does that work for written pieces? Also, the posting and reveals on AO3: will the creator or the mod be doing the posting/revealing?
Thank you in advance for your reply, I hope to be able to join your event
To answer your questions:
Check-ins will be done via a form that is emailed out for each check-in period. You will receive an email with a link to the check-in form and a reminder of what's expected for progress for that check-in. You will then have a few days to get the form filled out with either a link to your work or a file upload so that mods can see progress and make sure it's actually being worked on even if you're not necessarily at the full minimum requirement for that check-in, and to make sure what you're doing matches with the prompt you're assigned. (All communication will be done via email.)
All works will be uploaded to AO3. If someone does not have an AO3 account, they are to let mods know so that an invitation can be sent to them. This makes it so that there is a centralized location for everyone to find the entire advent calendar, instead of it being scattered across everyone's different social medias.
Posting and reveals will be done by the mods. All works are to be submitted to AO3 by November 22nd so that mods have time to prepare previews and secure any last minute pinch hitters if needed. Then, on each day of the advent, mods will make a social media post with a preview of the work, who made it, and a link to the full thing for viewing/reading. Mods will reveal the work on AO3 at that time.
Once the work is revealed, participants are free to update the publication date so that it matches and are welcome to promote the work on their own social media (quoting the event post, sharing their full illustration, etc).
Originally, we allowed creators to post their work themselves on their posting day, but it was very inconsistent because of time zones and life responsibilities, so for consistency, it was changed on the second year to have mods do all the reveals themselves so that they are posted at the same time each day. Hopefully this answers all of your questions.
