🐻 The black bear is known to live in the mountains, and can easily adapt to semi-desertic zones, pine tree or encino tree forests. All they require is an abundant vegetation and a constant source of water. Their diet consists of 95% plant based and 5% meat based. The subspecies of Ursus americanus ermicus is the only one receiving protection, while the other two subspecies tend to be located at higher altitudes, making it difficult for the gathering of data. They can be found in the Sierra Madre occidental, which includes, Nuevo León, Tamaulipas, and areas of Jalisco and Nayarit that have high elevation areas. This is the last species of endemic bears that can be found in the wild. The Grizzly Bear (Ursus arctos nelsoni) has gone extinct.
