Measurements of Jachin & Boaz
written by Will Schumacher
I have been making a connection between the 2 witnesses standing before God and the 2 pillars standing before the temple. The root of the hebrew word for “pillar” means “to stand”.
The 2 pillars are called Jachin and Boaz and have pomegranates wrapped around their top/head symbolizing God’ laws on their heads.
Notice that God says we are to have our heads crowned with His laws.
Proverbs 1:9 For they shall be an ornament of grace unto thy head, and chains about thy neck.
God says he would put His laws on our hearts.
Jeremiah 31:33 But this shall be the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel; After those days, saith the Lord, I will put my law in their inward parts, and write it in their hearts; and will be their God, and they shall be my people.
I used to think of my heart in my chest and see this as the seat of my emotions and this is where God was writing His laws. But what is the Hebraic understanding of the heart in the Bible? According to Jeff Benner (and others), the heart to the Hebrews was the mind and the thoughts, while the kidneys are the seat of emotions.
From Jeff Benner on what the “heart” actually means:
While we, in our modern Western world, associate this word with “emotions,” in the Ancient Hebrew world this word is associated with “thought,” the “mind,” and we can see this in the following passages.
The LORD saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every intention of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually. (Genesis 6:5, ESV)
Oh, let the evil of the wicked come to an end, and may you establish the righteous— you who test the minds and hearts, O righteous God! (Psalm 7:9, ESV)
In this last verse, the Hebrew word לב (lev, Strong’s #H3820) is translated as “minds.” The word “hearts” in this same verse is the Hebrew word כליה (kilyah, Strong’s #H3629), which means “kidneys,” not “heart.” While the “heart” is seen as the seat of thought in Hebrew philosophy, the “kidneys” are seen as the seat of emotion."
When I understood that the heart is actually the mind and the thoughts which originate from the brain in our head it makes perfect sense that the Holy Spirit rested on the top or heads of the believers in Acts 2 and that we/the 144,000 are sealed on our foreheads.
Acts 2:3 And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them.
Revelation 14:1 And I looked, and, lo, a Lamb stood on the mount Sion, and with him an hundred forty and four thousand, having his Father's name written in their foreheads.
And again the pillars standing in front of the temple with pomegranates on their heads is a picture of the God’s laws on our heads through the Holy Spirit. Zechariah 4 which is a type of Revelation 11 and the two witnesses also reinforces this:
Zechariah 4:6 Then he answered and spake unto me, saying, This is the word of the Lord unto Zerubbabel, saying, Not by might, nor by power, but by my spirit, saith the Lord of hosts.
I look at numbers in the Bible and see their root meaning in how they correspond to the 22 letters of the Hebrew alphabet and their positioning and gematria.
They have a circumference of 12 cubits:
1 Kings 7:15 For he cast two pillars of brass, of eighteen cubits high apiece: and a line of twelve cubits did compass either of them about.
The 12th letter of the Hebrew alphabet is the letter “lamed”. It’s pictograph is a shepherd staff symbolizing authority. The word “lamed” means to teach. There were 12 tribes of Israel and 12 disciples and apostles. Jachin and Boaz as a type of the 2 witnesses and Spirit filled church are God’s authority on earth to be His witnesses and teach His commandments and one day we will reign with Him.
Matthew 28:18 And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth. 19 Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: 20 Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world. Amen.
Acts 1:8 But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.
The 18th letter of the Hebrew alphabet is “tsade”. From Hebrew for Christians, its pictograph is a fish hook. The word tsud means to “hunt or fish”. We are to be fishers of men. A tzaddik is a “righteous one” and the letter “tsade” is said to symbolize the righteous.
So Jachin and Boaz stand 18 cubits tall or “righteous” and their circumference is 12 cubits/ they are God’s authority and teachers.
On the heads of Jachin and Boaz are the chapiters containing the pomegranates. The chapiters are 5 cubits:
1 Kings 7:16 And he made two chapiters of molten brass, to set upon the tops of the pillars: the height of the one chapiter was five cubits, and the height of the other chapiter was five cubits:
Brass symbolizes judgement. The word of God judges.
The word for “top” in the above verse is Strong’s H7218. It also means “head”. These chapiters are the heads of the pillars wrapped in pomegranates.
The 5th letter of the Hebrew alphabet is the letter “hey”. It means “behold” or “to reveal”. Torah in its narrowest sense refers to the 5 books of Moses. More than likely the 5 stones David used to defeat Goliath symbolized the torah or 5 books of Moses. When Jesus was tempted by the devil He quoted from the book of Deuteronomy, the 5th book, exclusively.
So Jachin and Boaz have a head tied to the number 5, the torah, wrapped in pomegranates, tied to the number 613 and the number of commands in the torah. They are sealed with the Holy Spirit and the Laws of God are written on their heads/hearts in Hebraic understanding.
Jachin and Boaz standing 18 cubits refer to them being righteous.
In Matthew 28:18 Jesus says He has power over heaven and earth. We are to be His witnesses with this power. This is verse 24214.
Matthew 28:18 And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth.
The 2 witnesses are given power by Jesus in verse 30876:
Revelation 11:3 And I will give power unto my two witnesses, and they shall prophesy a thousand two hundred and threescore days, clothed in sackcloth.
The verse jump is 6662. Strong’s H6662 = righteous.
Jachin has a gematria of 90. Tsade, the 18th letter, has a gematria of 90.
Boaz has a gematria of 79. Together their gematria totals 169 which is the cube of 13.
Betemunah.org has an interesting take on the number 13. There were 12 tribes with God as the head so a total of 13. There were 12 disciples with Jesus as the head so 13. Deuteronomy 6:4, the lead of the Shema, saying “God is one” has a gematria of 13 x 86. 86 is the gematria of God.
13 pictures oneness. The 13th letter of the Hebrew alphabet is the letter “mem”. It is linked to water. Water is one.
I believe God is showing Jachin and Boaz are tied to the number 13. They are one with Him through His Spirit. By His power and His power alone are we saved, sanctified, and useful to Him as His witnesses.
