Moved from Sydney to Warsaw. This is about first apartment: number seventy7. I don't own it, but it's mine. No de-facto. No housemates. No family. As an introverted DIY queen & interior decorator enthusiast this is a BIG deal. It will be amazing.

Finished : Pallet Kitchen Table

Done. Got some legs from IKEA and it’s height is perfect in terms of the windows opening all the way without it scratching the table.

It’s so useful! I’ll find a way to make some stools for it. I’d like to make 2, each will be different. I’ll see what I can scavenge to make use of something old.

In Progress : Pallet Kitchen Table

After a good sanding I painted the top in a black varnish. Eventually the black will wear with time and it’ll give the table a more used and industrial look. Now all we need are legs!

So I found this by the dumpster (where all treasures seem to be found.)

Since there’s minimal counter space in the kitchen this will be awesome useful. Just need to make sure it’s nice and clean for kitchen use.

Finished : Vent

I plastered around the hole, sanded and painted around the area. Was pretty simple though I’m confused by some of the construction choices made in this apartment. The wall was plastered and painted while the old vent was in place, leaving a big square of mess underneath, meanwhile it would have been simpler to remove it and plaster to the edge of the hole.

The metal vent I nailed in was one I found in the kitchen when I first moved in. Simpler and more industrial like, and I used round head nails.

Had a closer look at this vent in the wall. Turns out it was blocked up from the inside.

These vents in Poland are quite important during winter for central heating and general ventilation.

Time Out

I had to take a bit of time out from renovations; had to repair a broken heart.

It’s still in repair, but at least now I’m back into working on the apartment bit by bit. So stay tuned.

Update : Living Area

So this is what the place looks like now. I kinda like the minimalism, and it’s getting more homey by the day.

It’s still a little white.

For anyone who’s read the first post “About Me”, it didn’t work out with 2.0.

Finished : Desk

I’ve sanded to top and gotten some liquid beeswax. The more coats I put on the better and darker the finish will be. I didn’t sand off all the varnish. Unfortunately I have only muscle power and it’s tiring work, but it’ll do.

The legs are cheapie IKEA legs. Black of course.

In Progress : The Desk

Grabbed this baby from IKEA. I didn’t want anything with wheels that would damage the floor or armrests.

Let’s hope this thing will be comfortable enough to game in.

In Progress : Desk

It’s time to make a desk. I’m sick of using the armchair and a laptop table; my back isn’t too great.

The landlord left this coffee table for me. It’s pretty much the only piece of furniture he had that I wanted to keep.

It’s from the 70′s, veneer. I’ll take the top off, sand it, finish it, and get some legs and a chair. It is a bit small, but it’ll have to do.

Another of my favourite movies is Spirited Away. Found a little spot on my wall for these little guys. Trying to stay away from too many girly things in the apartment, but we’ll see how it looks :)

Finished : Chalk Board Unit 01

In Progress : Chalk Board Unit 01

At first I taped off just a big rectangle, but I thought I’d do a picture chalk board instead. I love anime, and the first series I ever watched that got me into it in the first place was Neon Genesis Evangelion.

I found this image of Unit 01 and loved it instantly (I love it when they go berserk.) So I drew it onto the wall and hopefully it’ll look awesome once it’s done.

In Progress :  Chalk Board Wall(s)

I had a chalk board wall many many years ago. It’s a useful way to make quick notes and reminders. The chalk powder can be a bummer, but for me the size of the wall is a bonus; I loose track of my priorities and “to do’s” as I get easily distracted.

There’s not a lot of paint in this tin, but hopefully there’ll be enough to make a decent board near where my desk will be. That way it’ll be in my face all the time.

Finished : Dagobah System Terrarium

Done! So happy with this. It just needs a spritz of water now and then to keep it alive. It’ll go on my desk...as soon as I build one.

R2D2 was looking a bit too clean. In the film he lands himself in the swamp and gets dirty. This’ll be general dirt. More to come, he’ll need more on the bottom half like in the film.
