Here's my general philosophy (after extricating myself from years of caged, suffocating religious upbringing that inflicted serious cognitive dissonance):

Any type of belief system that prohibits you from exploring alternative ideas wants to keep you isolated and exploitable.

It does not respect your autonomy. It only wants you to be a mindless drone at their disposal, mentally dependent and automatic. An ideology that thrives in ignorance is covering up dangerous truths. Ask questions. Stay curious. Never submit.

There are many more evil in the world that are perpetrated by those who simply chose to obey without question, those who hide behind the inaccountability and leniency of the phrase "just taking orders" But conformity is not always the moral choice, nor does ignorance absolve one of wrongdoing.
