NVQ Courses Are The Way Forward
NVQ Courses
Some like to read through books, study with the pressure of performing during an exam. This practice is an acceptable way of improving your skills, but if, like most people, you don't want to just rely on a 2 hour exam to get you through, an NVQ (National Vocational Qualification) is the best way forward and will assist in improving your job prospects.
It’s very unlikely, although sometimes necessary, to sit exams to complete NVQ courses and qualify. NVQ courses are simply reliant on you working in the chosen field. Whether you are in part time or full time employment, knowing how to do something by learning on the job is much easier than reading about how you perform a task using a textbook.
Don’t worry about being forced to sit entry examinations as there are no requirements to start an NVQ. Your abilities will most likely be assessed and the relevant NVQ level will be recommended. NVQ course levels range from level 1 all the way up to level 5 (and sometimes higher, depending on the employer). This can cater for complete novices to advanced senior managers. As the NVQ courses are bespoke to your employer's needs, you won’t waste time educating yourself on irrelevant information. As you progress through each level, you take on more and more responsibility. For example level 1 for the NVQ plumbers course includes basic administration tasks such as organising meetings. Level 3 of a plumbing course may require you to set up a central heating system in someone’s small business location.
How do research NVQ courses?
There are so many courses to choose from but some of the more popular NVQ courses are business administration, management and finance courses. Speak to your employers to find out if they will support you. Your human resources department may even have information on the NVQ courses available. It's in their best interests to train you.
And what's in it for everyone?
There are so many benefits when completing NVQ courses. Companies benefit from the skills set that have been developed during the hands on experience approach of the course whereas traditional qualifications lack the essential practical skills gained from your chosen vocation.
How will this fit around my life?
NVQ courses usually take place whilst working and employers will usually give you time during working hours to complete the course. While the initial levels can take up to anything up to 6 - 12 months, you are generally able to take as much time as you want allowing for the other life commitments and can complete the course part time. Tutors will often visit and carry out practical assessments at your work and many are now looking to migrate courses to the web, with discussions over webcams, saving you even more of your precious time.
