my submission for @creatingblackcharacters 's Melanin Beam Challenge this year!! of course Grace was my go to since that's what we do here. also incorporating @hagfishesss 's Chinese Stratt hc into Afro-Chinese Stratt (with permission!! go check out the original!!)

design notes under the cut ^^

in the original Chinese Stratt design, she has naturally straight hair that she curls due to Eurocentric pressures. i thought that straightened, curled hair would translate that idea well! also bc the concept of her doing important world-saving work with rollers in gets to me.

Afro-Chinese Stratt's parents met in the Netherlands! she doesn't quite feel like she belongs anywhere and is very used to feeling like an outsider. it makes her job easier... or so she says. she won't get attached because there's nothing to get attached to. she doesn't feel Chinese enough be accepted by the other Chinese people on the vat. she grew up Black in Europe. and now she has Grace, but he doesn't... get it. not really. he had a culture and a family and he left them. he couldn't possibly get it.

Grace is wearing aroace colors again because I think it's fun <3 his design notes are elaborated on at length in my afrophage tag!
