ishmael and queequeg from limbus company!!
Theyre so important to me. They love each other and no one can convince me otherwise. Yeah, theyre not teeechnically a canon romance, but look at the way they talk to each other.
One of the first things queequeg says to ishmael is that she likes ishmaels hair because it looks like the sunset.
When ishmael found out that queequeg used to be part of the middle, she didn't hate her. She wasnt afraid of her, even though she knew what the middle was capable of. Even after hearing that queequeg had killed so many people to become a big sister. Ishmaels immediate reaction was concern that the middle would still be hunting queequeg down for leaving them.
Queequeg made ishmael promise that if she died, ishmael would make sure her body was kept in a coffin so even in death no whales or mermaids would be able to get to her. When the boat sunk, ishmael couldn't keep that promise, and the only reason she survived is because she was using queequegs empty coffin to float on the water. Specifically, she survived by holding onto the ropes that were tied to the coffin. Now, she wears that rope as a headband.
And immediately after we learn this we get a cutscene of queequeg telling ishmael to tie their ropes together, literally tying their lives together ("now if you fall, I fall. You. Me. Together.") so ishmael won't be too scared that she would fall into the whale.
On the pequod, ishmael told queequeg that after the voyage was over they would figure out who they are together. Years later, when they finally met again in the pallid whale, queequeg said the same thing to her with almost the exact same wording.
Ishmael wanted to live the rest of her life with queequeg.
In the pallid whale, queequeg broke ahabs orders knowing that it would mean she would never get to escape and see the sunset again. She did it anyway to save ishmael.
Queequeg said that over the years in the pallid whale, the one thought that kept her going was that she has to escape to see ishmael again.
The last thing queequeg asks for as she dies is for ishmael to tell her her name again, just like the first time they met.
Yeah, you could argue theyre just really good friends. And honestly, I dont even see them as a couple that actually got together. To me, they were friends who wished to be more. They loved each other and they thought "after this voyage, we can make this real". But they never got the chance. And that tragedy makes me love them even more because I can rarely enjoy a ship that's not a tragic one.
