I’ve been on tumblr off and on for over a decade now, and have written and roleplayed for many, many fandoms, including DC comics, Sailor Moon, A:TLA, and BNHA. Currently, I write for Harvest Moon and the Final Fantasy series, but dabble in others as inspiration strikes.

I am an adult and adult content of all kinds will be present. I do not police morality, take sides in affairs I am not involved with, and don’t kink or content shame. "It doesn't still bother you, does it?"

Francel's voice is warm and thick, skirting the line between sleep and the waking world. Haurchefant's presence always seemed to do just so: pull him into a comfortable, familiar quiet, as much of a cozy companion as the hot tea in his hands.

His friend's bravery had saved his life. It had promised him his own, too, a bittersweet thing that still hung cloying in his throat like a glob of honey. Haurchefant had done so much for him, and now - ...

When would he get to see him? He had become a knight, thrust into commanding a camp in the highlands. Now, Francel would straggle behind, yet another too-young brother left in the wings.

His lips set, peering carefully at the young man past his mug. And then, in a sleepy sort of honesty, Francel spoke:

"I'm going to miss you. I know you will be happier there, and I hope it brings you fulfillment. But, still - ... a small part of me wishes... you didn't feel as if you had to escape."

Things had been looking up for Haurchefant lately. Since his recent heroics, he had been awarded knighthood, the one thing he had craved and had worked for his entire life. His father had given him a position in Camp Dragonhead of all places – not exactly a dream position, certainly, but an important one. Camp Dragonhead, he knew, saw many travelers coming through, and it was a valuable bastion of defense against the Dravanians.

Most would not envy this position, but Haurchefant saw its potential. It was not his father writing him off, for it played a significant role in the war. He would be far away from his stepmother’s many criticisms. He would be able to prove himself further, as more than just his father’s bastard son, not even deserving of the family name.

There was just one wrinkle in his future: his best friend Francel.

Francel was too young to achieve knighthood, being five years Haurchefant’s junior, nor did he seem to have the aspirations for it. He would not be able to leave the city except in an official capacity, meaning that they would not be able to see each other often, if at all. There were letters, of course, but that was not the same.

So it was sort of bittersweet to visit with Francel at the moment. Still, Haurchefant was all smiles, though more subdued with his friend than at his home, where his bags were being packed as they spoke.

It was with a small sigh that Haurchefant reached out and placed a warm hand on Francel’s shoulder. “You are the one thing I will miss with this position,” he said. He could live without servants and expensive foods and teasing his brothers. His daily talks with Francel, on the other hand, time spent sparring and playing and gossiping, that he would miss.

It was rather like an escape, though; Francel had the right of it. Escape from the stepmother who hated him for the circumstances of his birth, from a father who barely defended him, from brothers who knew they were superior to him, even if they did not rub it in his face (very often). It was probably just as well for them, too, that he was leaving.

“Well – escape or no, it hardly matters,” Haurchefant said easily. “It’s also an opportunity. I know you know that. I’ve been given a chance to prove myself fully. That saving you was not a freak accident, but the result of all the hard work I’ve been doing. It is terrible that I must leave, I know, but it is my opportunity to show them what I am made of.”

His reaction would have caused both Cal and Lia to heckle him until he buried himself alive just to rid himself of their terrorizing - had they still been awake. Rolan's self-deprecating snort swiftly evolved into a ragged cough, the lukewarm cider he had been sipping on dribbling onto his tunic. With his shoulders still shaking with horridly stifled coughing, he wiped his mouth, turning to the woman aside him as if she had turned into a monstrosity.

"Truly," he said, waving his hand at her to banish any further thoughts she may have had about him. "Mayhaps it is time for me to take your bottle. Not that you don't deserve to celebrate - but it seem to have ... impacted your rationale."

Aye, he was warm, both by birth and by the copious amount of ale he had swallowed this eve alone. As the sun had set, the chilly autumn wind reminding them of the hour, he had turned to warmed mead instead.

Perhaps she was not the only one too deep within their cups. At least his overindulgence didn't involve waxing poetic to the caravan's new-found hero. Not yet. Not if he had a say in it.

"Might I escort you to your tent? I - that is to say, may you need a steadying arm to return to your bedroll? -- wait --"

husband and i were discussing morally reprehensible characters and the dissonance between what makes a bad character socially acceptable to enjoy. and why people "woobify" certain characters and their backstories to be less "problematic" when that entirely defeats the purpose of the character.

anyway i need to add more "problematic" muses. taking suggestions.
