Im not sure if this could fall under some kind of accidental ableism or if its just ageism, but theres something about doctors refusing to tell young/under 18 patients the details/severity of their conditions. same with them refusing to tell them any details about medication theyre prescribed. i've had to learn an absurd amount about my own chronic illnesses by myself over the years because they developed when i was very young and i was never told more than "yeah you basically just have tired forever with zero treatment syndrome (me/cfs) sorry kiddo", despite being on the moderate-severe end of it. and its taken me until near adulthood to learn why specific prescriptions ive been on for years make me feel like shit half of the time because they only ever told me "we're giving you this thing now! :)" and that was it, no elaboration or even any warning about any side affects.
if someone is disabled and/or medicated in any way it shouldnt matter how old they are, withholding important info could kill them in a worst case scenario i fear
This is ableism and medical neglect.
I believe most doctors standard of care (at least in the US, I'm not sure about other countries, sorry) require them to tell a patient what they're doing, treatment, general information about what a patient has.
