This week a friend showed me the webcomic Lore Olympus by Rachel Smythe and what can I say except that I am a HUGE fan of this serie now! I really like everything in it, it is just perfect! Here's a fanart of my new waifu ♥️ Nyx ♥️

LO EDIT/REDESIGN

Decided to hop on into the trend and redesign Persephone's titan form when "fighting" Cronus, there's nothing wrong with the original design it does kinda gives off that girl boss vibes y'know, but it just doesn't feel that different from the original Persephone, like it's just Persephone with her blood red eyes and a black dress with a crown and earrings like that's it, so I decided to add a few things to further emphasize the dreadful aspect of Persephone.

About the design

Let's start with the snakes: I gave her snakes because in some versions the furies were daughters of both Hades and Persephone, and one of the main characteristics of the furies was the snakes in their hair, so I gave her snakes to reference that in my Design.

The hair: Persephone had two symbols, a stack of wheat and a torch, specifically a four-headed torch (pretty badass if you ask me 😎), so I tried my best to make it fire-like.

The face: you've probably noticed that her face looks darker in the edit than in the original, well there's a good reason for that, I wanted to make Persephone a little terrifying so I gave her a mask (I'm gonna call it a mask for simplicity) as a little emphasis on the dreadful aspects of her character.

I gave her dark blue makeup bc there's a version where it described Persephone as "dark-eyed Persephone" so I wanted to reference that, and also bc why not? I also gave her a more serious and prepared expression to make the scene more serious bc in the original she looked like your little sibling after they got you in trouble.

Her outfit: I wanted Persephone to have an ancient greek inspired dress because I thought it'll look powerful if a character who is based on an ancient story/figure wore an outfit that is inspired by the ancient culture they're based on.

I made the dress blend in with her skin because 1) it's inspired by Persephone's dress in the later episodes 2) I wanted to give this unusual vibe and make her look like an actual powerful non-human being rather than someone who got an entire bucket of paint spilled all over them.

So yeah, that's my LO edit/redesign, what do you guys think? Unlike some people, I'm open to criticism and looking forward to improving my skills in the future

And Persephone doesn’t want to see them? Like people are calling this growth for her not being jealous but I can’t help but think it’s just cutting corners so we can be done with the plot point

It’s just edgy middleschool bully fantasy and it’s so unattractive

Can't even say it's Persephone "not being jealous" tbh because a level-headed person wouldn't do this. Even if "jealous" isn't the word, these are absolutely 100% the actions of an insecure person who feels threatened by another and can't deal with it healthily.

Think about it this way, when someone says "well I trust you, but it's them I don't trust" really they're just saying the same thing as "I don't trust you". Because it shouldn't matter how someone else feels about your partner, if your partner has proven through their actions and through their love for you that they're not going to go behind your back and cheat, then that's where the conflict should end. The only case you should be worried about trusting them is if you're worried they're going to do something dangerously stupid but ultimately, you can't control what they do, only what you do and how you react to their actions.

And let's face it, hot take, but Leuce got called out for trying to "seduce" Hades over literally nothing, like she showed up, took off her coat, and sat down, and Hades jumped right to "Are you trying to seduce me??" with barely any provocation, which honestly says more about him and how he views women. Yes, Leuce was going there with the intent to seduce him, but with how quickly the comic skipped over it to get to him accusing her and kicking her out of his office, it gives off the notion that he thinks women are trying to come on to him just by existing. And we all know the character in this comic who actually does think that way and is (justifiably) cast as the villain for doing such a thing. How is Hades any better with what he's shown doing here?

All this isn't to say that another person trying to pull the moves on your partner shouldn't bug you, you're absolutely justified in feeling hurt or uncomfortable, but going and trashing the house of someone who's already been rejected by your partner doesn't accomplish anything. Hades had already dealt with the problem by rejecting her and asking her to leave. She's already lost, she's already undoubtedly feeling like an idiot over the whole thing. Hades has already proven that Persephone can trust him.

But here's the thing - Persephone's insecure because deep down, she knows she likely can't. Because not only has Hades lied to her about his previous affairs (Hera) but she's also been the active participant in one of his affairs. A relationship built on an affair almost always leads to these paranoid reactions because it's only a matter of time before the person who got "picked" over a previous partner starts to ask the question, "When will they cheat on me?" If they were capable of cheating on their previous partner to be with you, they are 100% capable of cheating on you. Cheaters are cheaters regardless of who they're with. Just because Persephone is the "perfect" partner for Hades doesn't mean he's incapable of replacing her with the next girl who catches his fancy because he's done it before. No matter how "perfect" she thinks she is that she of all people got 'picked' to be his, that doesn't matter to a serial cheater, the "perfect woman" will not fix him.

To top it all off, and to get it back on topic, it's not like Persephone did this whole thing in front of an audience. Whatever 'message' she's trying to send, it's not going to fall on the ears of anyone else who might try something similar because she's doing it completely unprovoked. She's literally just doing it for her own placation.

There's more I'd love to go into about this but I'll wait until next week when the episode becomes free because oh boy, does it ever get worse.

Tl ; DR: People who are secure in their relationships and in themselves don't do this. They turn to their partner, get reassurance from them if needed, and get their closure from within. Closure does not come from abuse.

The Baffling Case of LO's Onomatopoeia

I will admit, I never really used Tumblr much prior to this past year, only on and off, but I do know what people are talking about when they reference "Tumblr humor".

So is this something that's a symptom of Rachel's extremely dated 2012-era Tumblr humor? Is it something she genuinely thinks translates well into a legitimate professionally-made webcomic? Or is it an actual error where she's writing these literal sound effects and actor cues in the roughs/scripts and then her assistants put them in there without realizing it's supposed to be implied and not said aloud? Because it definitely feels like amateur actors reading the non-spoken things aloud off the cue card.

Maybe it's a combination of all three?

Either way, y'all know what time it is. I asked a bunch of my ULO pals to put together some of their favorite examples of 'literal' sound effects and actor cues so I could replace them (or outright remove them) to help the panels flow better and not break the immersion. Here are a few of them.

Persephone’s Fur Coat Rant

It’s unusually for me to rant on here but if you wanna read it, it’s down below:

With the recent LO episodes, I wished there was some more context with Persephone’s fur coat. After all she went through (fighting Kronos), I wished there was some interaction between Hestia and Persephone. What was the point of the fur coat if it lost some significance after the episode 26? The fur coat was a gift Persephone cherished for a short period of time because it associates with Hades and she had feelings for him. Eros noticing how the buttons were actual diamonds. How it kept her warm when she met Hades for the second time. It was fluffy for crying out load. Persephone's relationship with Hestia was strain after Hestia confiscated her coat. The interactions clearly showed her discomfort in not being able to confront towards Hestia in episode 91. 

 I’m sure Rachel might bring up the fur coat at some point but she could’ve added that in recent episodes where Persephone was with the other Goddesses. With the way she narratives her comics, she can’t cram in all the details. 

In the long run, Hestia owes Persephone some sort of apology with the way she acted towards Persephone (given how Apollo was the reason that nudged her in the direction acting angry with Persephone).
