âPlease donât expect me to always be good and kind and loving. There are times when I will be cold and thoughtless and hard to understand.â
â Sylvia Plath
Not to go "if you have ADHD just go for a run" or anything, but I am so serious if you have ADHD you should regularly go outside, no headphones no phone no nothing and just stand and observe for a while until you've had enough. Not until you get bored, until you've had enough. Drink your coffee without watching tiktok. Have a bath without music. Turn down the volume in your headphones. I cannot overstate how much learning to be bored is cruicial with ADHD. Life is not just about pleasure, no matter what your dysregulated dopamine system thinks, and when you teach your brain to be okay with being bored, then boring tasks stop feeling like torture. By letting yourself be bored you are yoinking your system out of the high/low binary and allow for the highs to feel like actual highs and not just anything that isn't low. I am so serious go literally touch grass. Listen to the sounds in your flat. Stimulate your body the way it was designed. It lowers anxiety and makes you feel like you're real and best of all it's completely free
I really wish more ADHD mental health care told you WHY things like this matter to our quality of life.
The Hyperactivity in Attention-Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder is NOT about being physically hyperactive, it's about having a "hyperactive central nervous system" because it's a form of inheritable dysautonomia. The problem with disautonomia, especially the ADHD kind, is that it makes boredom flag to your nervous system as a THREAT, triggering hyperactive and maladaptive central nervous system processes like fight or flight.
But dysautonomia kills you that way. Literally, part of the reason our average life spand increase on stimulents is that it helps manage risk-taking impulsivity that can get us killed by accident, but the other part is that stimulents can regulate a hyperactive CNS such that it is functionally (while impacted by the stimulent) NOT dysregulated anymore. And PHYSIOLOGICALLY that is essential because the physical outcomes of dysautonomia can reduce your life span by YEARS if not decades through self-perpetuating hypervigelence, endocrine disruption, and adrenal fatigue.
So when the ADHD brain goes stimulation-seeking and a doctor tells you to practice mindfulness, it feels like being told "hey go stand in a functioning boiler until you can stop thinking" rather than WHAT IT IS which is the process of re-teaching your body what is and isn't safe.
Standing outside making mindful, non-interpretive/moralized observation of the world helps your brain and body re-acclimate to the idea that absence of that frantic "busy" feeling isn't a threat or a risk to your safety, and gradually reduces the level of distress that just hanging out somewhere triggers for you.
Learning WHY this stuff was being suggested and understanding what it was actually supposed to do went a long way towards changing my relationship with my ADHD. I am FAR more functional now, far less prone to shame spirals and rejection sensitivity, hell, I can **sit physically still for near on an hour at a time** now without feeling like I'm going to crawl out of my skin.
So yeah. Go outside. Let the world narrow around you and take deep breaths until it stops feeling claustrophobic or like you need to climb walls. Learn how to let little sensations become big ones like the way the heat of the sun on your skin starts as a gentle warming and be omes a unique collection of sensory moments depending on how it lands on you. Listen for sounds under sounds and let them fade in and out as you move your focus from one sound to the next. Enjoy. Move on. Rinse and repeat.
When you no longer feel like the world is actively killing you, it's a lot easier to navigate it.
S++ tier addition to the post, thank you tumblr user butts bouncing on the beltway
I love all books but sometimes you read a book and youâre like so were all 21 thousand of you blindfolded and at gun point when you rated it 5 stars
This explains a lot about my lack of asking for help when I clearly need it
Don't forget the fact that asking for help carries the risk of someone expressing mild disappointment in your inabilities, which will cause you to shut down for 5 to 7 working days.
Also see: learning from a very young age that there's no point in asking for help because you should be able to do it on your own
also see part two: having already asked for help on one thing, so you get a Shame debuff that stacks every further time you have to ask for help or clarification.
One of the most dangerous things in the world is not being able to say no to people because you don't want to upset them or dissapoint them. This will completely ruin your life in every way possible, at work, in your private life, your sex life and your friendships. It's a way of removing your own consent in your own decisions and go against your wishes, it is always a crime against yourself. Let yourself have a say. Upsetting people is better than traumatizing yourself.
If the simple act of having boundaries causes you to lose your family and friends then you've got shit family and friends who lack any real respect for you.

Luo Yunxi Appreciation Master Post: How can someone be so multi-talented?!
In case you did not already know, here are LYX's many talents. It's insane how many different things he can do at a near-professional level beyond acting!
1. Dance/Ballet
LYX graduated from the Shanghai Theatre Academy majoring in ballet with over 11 years of professional experience.
This is him doing 13+ pirouettes in a performance of Tchaikovsky Rhapsody (full video, he's on the right)
Interpret dance solo (çç§çç«è) where he won the first gold ever for STA (video, news)
Swan Lake solo at the Taoli Cup Dance Competition in high school (video)
Modern dancing solo (é»çœåœ±ç») at his graduation performance (video, he's the only guy in white)
He also taught at the Macao Conservatory for a year and danced in front of national leaders in Flying to the Moon (奿) at the Macao 10th Handover Anniversary (video)
He's super flexible and has a strong core (despite being naturally thin)
In response to request from fans, he performed the Black Moonlight dance in a now viral video on Douyin.
2. Wuxia / Posture
LYX is known as one of the best actors working today for wire work - you can see him here doing 3 consecutive jumps 2-3 stories above ground (compilation videos 1, 2)
He does a lot of his own stunts and is often better (i.e. more graceful) than his stunt double, even though it's really risky and he's sustained some serious injuries from being dropped accidentally (And the Winner is Love: B roll video, actual scene, other BTS, other fight scenes)
He moves with elegance, not just in action sequences (Ashes of Love fight compilation 1, 2), but people have made video compilations of how he walks, kneels, works his sleeves and train
Of course, it's thanks to his dance foundation, but he also puts a lot of hard work into stunt training. Not something a lot of actors do because it eats up time to make more TV or go on variety shows (Ashes of Love stunt training, BTS)
3. Diving
He played a diver once in Flip in Summer (倿¥å¿è·³) and actually learned to dive... I mean he's no Tom Daley but this looks pretty good for an amateur... (full video)
4. Voice Acting
Heâs always dubbed himself since circa 2018 (with the exception of And the Winner is Love due to Covid logistics issues), which is not the norm in Chinese drama (Ashes of Love dubbing BTS). In fact, he is sometimes the only person in the cast to use his original voice (e.g. in Princess Silver)
He also lends his voice to animations - he was the voice of Viktor in Arcane (BTS video), which received positive feedback (most people didn't realize he was not a professional voice actor)
He appears as a judge and live dubbing performer in Voice Monster alongside the top voice actors in China, Bian Jiang (aka voice of Yehua in Eternal Love, Nan Wangj in the Untamed) and Zhang Jie (aka voice of Donghua in Eternal Love, Sifeng in Love & Redemption). He has so much respect to those working behind the scenes, and it really shows (full video)
5. Singing
Some of you may know that he started out in a boy band called JL with Fu Longfei - these videos didn't age well, but here you go: JL (MV), æ们 (MV)
He has released a number of solo singles, including çŒèµ· (MV), ææä¹ç« (live), äžæ¯æ (MV), çé£å (MV). and å (soundtrack), which he composed and wrote the lyrics himself (these are all mando-pop ballads if that's your jam)
He performed Big Fish 倧鱌 at Tmall's 11/11 Festival (live video) - while his rendition is not as powerful as the original, he can hit really high notes with an impressive falsetto - I think it goes up to G5 (one octave above middle C)
He performed Pipa Xing (çµç¶è¡) at the Douyin Festival (live video) - the notable part is his Peking Opera style singing at the end
He occasionally releases covers of songs on Chinese karaoke app Changba or Douyin: èŠäžç¶æ们就è¿æ ·äžäžå¹Ž (youtube), 黿å (youtube), äžæ (youtube), 山氎åäžçš (youtube)
He can also sing in other languages, including 忬¢äœ in Cantonese (recording) - it's actually a very good cover and his Cantonese pronunciation is >95% accurate - there are parts where you can't tell he's not a native speaker.
6. Musical Instruments
He's an accomplished classically-trained pianist, which you can see in...
JL MV (video, starting around 3:30 mark) - don't mind the makeup, it's from ages ago
Mr Mossie season 2 (video)
Love is Sweet (BTS video) - impromptu jazz, he was deciding which song to play
Fan thank you recording (video)
He also plays the guitar, though probably at an amateur level
7. Music Gaming
During college he was obsessed with this music game called O2Jam (å²ä¹å¢) to the point where he created new tracks (i.e. arrange/compose the music) for the company under the username Dinoroy (explained by himself here, videos of him playing).
He became well-known within the fan community as the legendary Dç¥Â (D God). There are a lot of funny comments from old players saying that they thought D God is a bitter middle-aged recluse trying to screw them over with difficult tracks (read comments here).
D God was so prolific and reliable that gaming company accepted his submissions without review. Here are some of his best tracks - game arrangement only (Lydia, Croatian Rhapsody, Digital Emotions), music & game arrangement (黿é 圱), original composition (å ä¹ä¹ç« )
8. League of Legends
He's an LOL super fan, commentator, and player since season 2, went to see worlds in person twice, and was a cast member in a gaming show called Beyond It! Hero (episodes here)
He played the 2018 All-Star Event in Las Vegas teaming with reigning world champion Rookie and delivered the final blow that beat the other team 2:1 (video)
He got a quadra kill at a celebrity mobile game even though his team was crap (video clip)
He co-invested 1M RMB in a team led by Misaya è¥é£ - you can see them playing together in a live broadcast of the mobile game (video)
9. Calligraphy/Drawing/Culture
LYX is known for his Chinese handwriting (he practices regularly) - there's even a font based on his handwriting called æ±ä»ªçœäºçäœ (download here)
He does all his own handwriting for marketing materials (e.g. Immortality below) and doesn't need a hand double for scenes where his character is practicing ancient Chinese calligraphy
He's also got amazing drawing skills - check out the Queen of the Night æè± he drew as Runyu while waiting around on set in between takes (video)
While he doesn't go on a lot of variety shows, he's often a guest on cultural programs, like the beauty of Chinese Calligraphy 乊æ³ä¹çŸ (video), Chinese Fans in æå°äžçéé (video)
His self-produced Mr. Mossie covers a lot of cultural topics (seasons 1, 2, 3), the segment on Hanfu was featured in the UNESCO Chinese Language Video Festival (video)
10. Photography
Luo Yunxi is often seen taking photos on set with his top-of-the-line Leica camera. Here are some of the photos he has shared:
No because pride and prejudice isn't "I changed myself for you so you would love me back." It's "your blatant rejection and disdain for me made me realize things about myself no one had ever been bold enough to tell me so I sat down and evaluated all my behavior patterns and why they came about and came to the realization myself that I had to work on myself. Also I don't expect you to love me now that I'm a work in progress, so I'm just going to do nice things for you because I don't like seeing you hurt." No wonder P&P fans refuse to settle.

Reblogging again because I just realized that if I had this advice in high school I wouldâve never made a tumblr account.
Also works for most of those news sites like WSJ or NYT that only let you read a little bit, or block adblockers. Also some disable the scroll bar but if you go to the right side of the console after hitting F12 and look for the CSS element âoverflowâ and change it from âhiddenâ to âvisibleâ then you can continue scrolling for free. Might have to click around on different parts of the page to find it, but it should work.
