@o-ooze
just me and an old buddy :]
i thought this was an oil painting
“A child who’s told she has to do more housework than her brother because she’s a girl, or that she can’t be an astronaut when she grows up because she’s a girl, is likely to say “that’s not fair!” A boy who is told he cannot play with dolls because he’s a boy, or that he cannot be a secretary when he grows up, may find that unfair as well. But the boy who is told he can’t be a nurse is being told that he is too good to be a nurse. The girl, on the other hand, is essentially being told that she is not good enough to be a doctor.”

Mugshot of a 2-year-old Francois Bertillon, arrested for eating a basket of pears
Follow for more 1800s nostalgia
#who the fuck arrested a two year old #what police officer was like YOU’RE COMING WITH ME SON #was it javert #i bet it was javert (x)
So actually these photos were taken by the kid’s uncle, Alphonse Bertillon, who was a French police officer and inventor of the mug shot. These photos were just taken as a joke, probably when Bertillon was developing his mugshot technique and needed someone to practice on.
No actual two-year-olds were arrested in the creation of these photos!
“1880s nostalgia” with a pic from 1993 yes of course
There was also an 1893
From people thinking a toddler was actually arrested, to people somehow misreading “1800s nostalgia” as “1880s,” to this person thinking a fucking daguerreotype was taken in the 1990s… this whole thread was a ride I didn’t expect to take today.
This is worse than the math post

Me, beating it with a stick: Back! Back!
As adult women we feel this inherent need to stop girls from experiencing the pain and trauma of being raised as a woman in this culture, we want all the lessons we learned first hand to become stories and not experiences for others, but this society has a way of tricking girls into seeking out self-harm under the guise of self-empowerment and it breaks my heart to watch versions of myself falling for it again and again and again and again.
Rebellion feels so sweet until the trauma sets in and you realize you’ve dug this hole and covered yourself in mud to appease a society that wants to eat you alive. I used to laugh at women who ‘judged’ me for my choices but now I see they just wanted to save me from the hurt and pain of being willingly consumed.
Don’t live your life to impress a lover or a friend group, live your life to impress yourself, in five years you will be so grateful to not have to scrape years of dirt off your skin just to feel like yourself again.
it’s annoying right now but I implore young girls to listen to the advice of women you trust, especially when it comes to safety. The world is heavy but you’re never alone under the weight of it.

When nervous, fawns’ instinct is to lie down in the grass and keep an eye on threat. But sometimes, they’ll do it in plain sight and think they’re hidden. (Source)
