Anakin throws himself headlong into his work, definitely not for the sole reason of proving himself to Obi-Wan, who apparently thinks Anakin is completely unsuited for such a mission, or that Anakin is still a child and isn’t ready to be on his own, or whatever other reason is making him act so strange and distant lately.
Meanwhile, Obi-Wan, having barely come to terms with his growing attraction and romantic feelings toward Anakin, is struggling with the sudden realisation that there is nothing in the galaxy more abhorrent to him than the idea of someone else, anyone else, laying a hand on his (former) padawan.
