The detective nodded. “That’s alright, but may I ask where you were going that night? Or if you perhaps had called for..help?” Jim asked. There were few other witnesses he had to talk to but he really hoped if he knew more.

      The doctor swallowed, something that could       be mistaken for a nervous tick, but instead       preceded irritation or in this case,       consideration.

                 'There is something known as the bystander effect,                        have you ever heard of this, Detective?                                It can only occur in times of chaotic imbalance.                                     An attack, like the one you are investigating,                                                                                                      for-example.                       The principle of this occurrence is that any witnesses                                      will leave the onus of calling for help to someone else.                                                  They assume their peers will take up that mantle.'

                     '——Unfortunately, I fell victim to it myself.'
