I love DA2. The shitty graphics. The horrible gameplay. The story so unavoidably devastating and beautiful and horrible. Everyone hates each other. Everyone loves each other. You’re constantly filling the streets with bodies and there are no ramifications for this. There are ramifications for everything you say and do. Everyone’s bisexual. There’s a dragon in the mine. You lose everyone and everything you love and care about and it’s inevitable. Isabela gets an STI at one point. Merrill is a blood mage. You go from rags to riches to going on the run. You have a dog. You set your friend up on a date with the guy she likes. You hunt down a serial killer who takes the last member of your family away. Your doctor friend is possessed and loves cats and commits domestic terrorism. You have no control. You control everything.

My hardcore run of KCD2 is going great! I just saved Hans from the noose and so I'm inbound for some serious humbling

I thought combat was going to be worse but with no help, I actually lock in instead of just button mashing. I've also really come to appreciate having no UI, directions, markers and everything else - makes me wholly enjoy what's in front of me instead of stressing me out with how many quests I've picked up

Now the question is - should I hunt for some DLC trophies or get on with the story?? (If anyone has some hack or advice for how to get the "Horses for Courses" trophies, please enlighten me - I am dogshit at that mini game but an awful completionist at the same time)

One of the more underrated joys I've rediscovered picking back up my Pokémon collection after 20 years is the pack art

Like look! I am so grateful child-me decided to keep these wrappers around. Mostly I remember doing it because I couldn't for the life of me pull an actual Entei or Lugia, so this was the next best thing

Now though they are so much fun and it feels so special to hold the wrapping of a Skyridge pack (a set I despised as a child), knowing this is probably the closest I'll come to opening a vintage pack again

Also god, they were so pretty!

I'm working on the next chapter of The Eyewitness Accounts and for research purposes I looked up the Katherine and Henry romance and I am just floored by how flat it felt?

First of all - sorry Katherine, I never realized you could actually say goodbye to you AND go see Henry's boyfriend, so I've always just beelined to Hans, but second! What an awkward fucking conversation?? All of Henry's responses are just "What do you mean?", "Why is that?", "What are you saying?" and "What are you talking about?" - if I hadn't known it would lead to them canoodling on the ramparts out in the open, I would have never fucking guessed!

I am now full on a believer in the Klara-Katherine conspiracy - I even watched a playthrough where an NPC had Klara's exact outfit in the background of Godwin's sermon in the outer bailey scene, but don't know if it is just a generic herbalist-outfit

But wow, Katherine really deserved so much more love towards the end - she's one of my absolute favourites up until Suchdol

I get why they made Katherine a love interest (because certain people of the fanbase would riot) but I've never liked that she's a love interest, especially a main one. Henry having a crush on her makes sense - so does almost any woman-loving person that sees her - but she's a) clearly with Zizka? They literally share a bed and the codex entry kind of implies they're an item, or most likely are and b) there's nothing about the way Katherine treats Henry that implies she's into him back. She teases him, not directly or sexually, about his crush. But everything about her backstory and mannerisms makes her out to be trying to mother Henry, or even act like a big sister.

And c) the age gap between them would separate them by experience by a lot. Regardless of where you stand on how problematic such things are or aren't, as another somewhat older adult, I would bet a lot of silver that she would just see him as a kid or a little brother.

Given her backstory, losing both husband and child (which by the way - how awful to have your work-husband just tell the new hire about your most traumatic memory without your consent. I really would have loved for Katherine to be the one to decide whether or not to tell Henry about that instead of it being Zizka explaining her behaviour) - I could definitely see her viewing Henry as her lost son and being incredibly distraught about him always going off into danger.
