I am honestly very disappointed by the comments made about Ethiopia in regards to the news that broke about the incident at Ethiopian Airlines.
I wish people made an effort to educate themselves about certain things before jumping to conclusions. I’m not implying by any means that Ethiopia is a fully developed nation; in fact, we are the opposite. As any other developing nation, Ethiopia suffers from bad governance and minorities who exploit the country for their own benefit [which happened over the past 30 years].
However, I am writing this to educate my readers that the Ethiopia you refer to as the “home of the hungry people” is also the home of ancient civilization. The cradle of mankind; YES, a place where the human race began. It is the home of the Axum Empire–one of the first economically stable kingdoms to simplify an ancient method of trading by minting it’s own gold, silver and bronze coins. The Axum empire was also the first major dynasty in the world to accept Christianity.
After the founding of Islam, Ethiopia was the first country in the world to accept/adapt the religion. (Even before the Middle East). It is a country mentioned more than any other both in the bible and the Quran. A land where both christians and muslims live peacefully celebrating each other's holidays.
Ethiopia is home of many legendary worriers (our founding fathers) who chose to take away their lives before ever having to witness their land occupied by Europeans. Not only did our leaders fight for their own country, they played a main role in the fight of decolonizing many African countries from Europeans.
I wish my time allowed me to write more, but these are just some of the many contributions of Ethiopia to the world. As an Ethiopian, I feel obligated to introduce my beautiful country and culture to the world; especially when my country is being criticized and attacked by narrow minded individuals who jump to conclusions based off of events that have happened over the course of 30 years.
I still feel the same as I did 4 years ago. My one and only Ethiopia
Y'all. I did a thing. Everyone, meet Stark. Ain’t she a beaut 😍
