Frankenstein (1910) dir. J. Searle Dawley

1910年に米国エジソンスタジオで製作された無声映画で初のフランケンシュタイン映画。脚本・監督はJ・サール・ドーリー。長年、このフィルムの存在は不明だったが、米国のコレクターが死蔵していた。そのポジを、近年、米国議会図書館がデジタル修復し公開、ネットで手軽に見られるようになった。

面白いのは怪物の製造方法で、遺体を縫合手術や電気ショックで蘇らせるという後に定着したイメージではなく、骸骨から得た粉末（？）と化学薬品などを混ぜると人型が復元されていくという描き方。これは現代の目で見ればクローンやiPS細胞みたいなものだし、東宝フランケンやサンダ、ガイラに近い発想。
