We should go back to calling things wack. Shit's never been wacker
Anyone and everyone CAN write. The world’s most skilled writer didn’t start off skilled. The key is that they practice hard by writing a lot.
As long as you write, you are practicing your craft and you are getting better at writing. But you will never get anywhere if you let AI write for you.
I used to tell my screenwriting students that everyone has a story to tell, and if you're willing to work at it, you can get good at telling that story. But also realize that if working at the craft stresses you out or bores you, find someone who loves it that can help you tell that story.
It's time for another Podcast Crowdfunding Crash Course! This will take place Saturday Feb 21 from 9am to 12pm PST. It's $40, but trans and BIPOC creators can message me for a 50% discount code. Space is limited to 15 seats.
More info at https://ko-fi.com/s/2e8906aac0
Annnd here's a testimonial from the last time I ran this workshop: "It was incredible to see a variety of data on what crowdfunding can look like and to learn specific approaches I can take to try and set myself up for success. Highly recommend"
my daily affirmation as an author
Amen.
Let this be the mantra of all creatives.
On Writing
I'm working on a very emotional episode of my audio drama. One part of the scene, I was typing through tears. Every single character is this little tiny part of me, and when they get emotional, it seems I do too.
Or maybe is just the impending dread of the world. It's definitely one of those things.

starting a collection of shots from 2025 tv shows that perfectly capture the vibe of the year
It's so funny to me that Mary Shelley, her husband, John Polidori, and Lord Byron had a competition to see who could write the best horror story and she wrote fucking Frankenstein. Imagine losing a competition that badly. Imagine just doing a silly little competition with your friend and she basically invents a new genre and creates one of the most famous characters in fiction. Imagine being proud of your little story and then she shares one that people will still read every day in 200 years. Imagine doing a writing competition with your wife and she becomes so recognizable that you'll always be known as Mary Shelley's husband
I have now heard two recitations of Percy Shelley poems. Both of them were in film adaptations of Frankenstein. Guillermo del Toro's Frankenstein, and the movie Lisa Frankenstein. Yes, Percy Shelley was a very important and influential writer and poet, but it is absolutely nowhere near the level of Mary Shelley or Frankenstein
The midseason finale is finally here!
Theo flips the script when she reluctantly decides to meet with her surprise visitor.
Oh, and you might want to stay through the credits.
Episode 26: Let's Be Honest by Apollyon
One thing I love about audio fiction (and all art I guess) is how palpable folks' differences in taste become when we recommend shows to each other. Like every now and then someone cracks the code and makes something that 95% of everyone raves about, but most of the shows out there are pretty niche, and each of them is somebody's favorite.
I love it when someone recommends a show and they're like "I was weeping for 3 hours and it changed my life forever" and I listen and it's like. It's fine. It's okay. And I love it when someone says "yeah this show was pretty good I guess" and then I listen and my neurons are rewired permanently.
And honestly, it's kinda beautiful.
What show(s) have been that for you?
Episode 25 is OUT NOW!! While chaperoning Lincoln's 16th birthday party, Theo and Gabriel have a heart-to-heart about their changing relationship. Meanwhile, Weiss and Angeline try to figure out how to handle Savreen.
There's only one more episode (coming in 3 weeks) before the long hiatus.😩

Episode 24 is out now! Only two more episodes before the hiatus.
Armand gains his freedom. A flashback to the night of the banquet fills in some missing pieces.

I really wanted to post a teaser video, but Tumblr isn't being nice about it right now. Anyway!! Here's the newest episode of Apollyon. The final scene was one of my favorites to write. I hope you enjoy it!
