They're toxically codependent. One enjoys lording his perceived superiority over the other, who is admittedly a loser and failure of a human being, although the other one is as well but is just only marginally better at hiding it, at least on a very surface level. One realized later on that they're attracted to other men. The other got married and had a baby but basically kept both from disrupting his life in any lasting way. They are each other's One no matter how deeply they do genuinely hate each other and make each other worse. They're locked together for life.
