it always seems so stupid to get hung up on left vs. right when the criteria for organisations are identical either way: the bigger they are the more harm they can do and the more oversight they require, establishing rule of law is good and undermining rule of law is bad, a system of robust democratic feedback is a sign of a healthy organisation that is more likely to produce good outcomes, an organisation that claims to have zero problems probably has a higher than average quantity of problems, and so on.

re: californium being used to start BWRs. theoretical thorium MSRs have a similar thing where you need to run them for ~a few weeks until the uranium-233 generation kicks in, so they require a U-235 or something 'starter charge'. But then theoretically you could skim spare u-233 out of the MSR's liquid fuel mix, and use that to start other reactors. which is like. sourdough starter? i think that's basically how that works?
