St. Philomena and the bridges. (Clermont County, Ohio, June 1, 2019)
St. Philomena’s Catholic church was the first Catholic church in Clermont County, Ohio. Established in 1839 and constructed from logs, the original church was destroyed by a raging fire on the eve of Ascension Day, 1868. One year later, a stone church was erected in its place, and the church as it is know today was built in 1905. It is said that Satan worshipers were the cause of the fire, and there is speculation that to this day, there is still a group of Satan worshipers that stalk the surrounding areas, performing rituals and keeping anyone who wanders near away.
The Covered Bridge
There is a rumor that the covered bridge, built in 1878, was the sight of a suicide. This suicide was committed by a man who had lost his child around the same area in the creek. It is said that he hanged himself from a tree, and that if you go to the bridge at night, and flash your high beams 5 times, you’ll see his corpse hanging from the tree as you exit the bridge.
