darkly dreaming dexter starters ( part one )
dark themes edition. ( trigger warning for mentions of murder, etc.)
“ how long have you been doing this?”
“ and this ‘something,’ it makes you kill things?”
“ have you ever wanted to kill something else?”
“ it’s going to make you want to kill, and you can’t help that.”
“ what are you?”
“ choose what… or WHO you kill.”
“ you gimme the fucking creeps.”
“ you don’t want to do this to me.”
“ put the knife down, ___.”
“ jesus christ that hurt!”
“ and then it hits me. it’s not me, it’s you. there’s something wrong about you.”
“ i should’ve listened to him/her. something’s wrong about you.”
“ that’s the kind of shit i used to fall for when i thought you liked me.”
“ you’re connected to this thing.”
“ maybe you didn’t do it, but i’m gonna find out. and some of what i find is gonna stick to you.”
“ ___, come on. for christ’s sake, cut the shit! it’s me!”
“ i should shoot you.”
“ for god’s sake let me out of this shit and quit acting like a fucking lunatic.”
“ goddamn it. come on, ___. snap out of it!”
“ ___ should see this. s/he was right about you.”
“ of course, neither one of us could manage that with real feeling. after all, we can’t actually feel anything, can we?”
“ we’ve both spent our lives playing a part. moving through this world reciting lines and pretending we belong in a world made for human beings, and never really human ourselves.”
“ have you done any reading on monsters like us?”
“ this happened, ___. the chain saw, the flying body parts, the … blood—”
“ we both suffered a classic traumatic event. it made me what i am—and i had a thought that it might do the same for you.”
“ you have to listen and do as i say. you have to. you should know that. it’s important.”
“ it’s a terrible mess, isn’t it?”
“ open them. open your eyes. open them NOW.”
“ look. or i will cut your eyelids right off your face.”
“ i am a very neat monster.”
“ oh, what a madcap little monster i’ve been.”
“ If i am ever careless enough to be caught, they will say i am a sociopathic monster, a sick and twisted demon who is not even human.”
“ yes, beg me. that’s good. much better.”
“ i understand perfectly. you see, i can’t help myself either.”
“ can’t? i don’t think i know that word.”
“ you are mine now. do exactly as i say.”
“ be good and you will live longer.”
“ oh, dear, are we being squeamish? after what happened?”
“ how did you know i would want to? you couldn’t really know.”
“ it’s a little bit of a shock the first time, isn’t it?”
“ killing makes me feel good.”
“ i enjoy my work; sorry if that bothers you. but there it is. and it’s not just ANY killing, of course. it has to be done the right way, at the right time, with the right partner—very complicated, but very necessary.”
“ i don’t want the cops to catch every serial killer out there. then what would i do for a hobby?”
“ there are plenty of people who deserve it.”
“ really? even after the new kill last night?”
“ imagine how it would’ve felt if i had killed you.”
“ i might have had to kill him/her.”
“ really, now: if you can’t get me my newspaper on time, how can you expect me to refrain from killing people?”
“ it looks very much like the killer might be me.”

@mums-here requested a Starter.
❝ – Echoes of his image shimmered like the shadows of the sun reflecting in the waters of an ocean; his thoughts projected against brick walls while he drifted like a dream, and from a fraction of himself Credence’s thin body slowly collected into existence. They had been so quick to kill him- destroyed him without a second thought. How many days did he spend in this sleepless suspension? In a somber way it held the peace he had always sought, and in a regretful way it reminded him of how frozen his life had been up to this point. Every sound seemed to be swallowed by a void of silence, and as the days crawled he remained halted in that same corner near the docks of New York until at a time he couldn’t recall, Barebone’s body finally became his own. Chestnut hues fluttered open upon hearing the scuff of footsteps so close by, wavering and flickering vision adjusting to the light pouring in from the sun that raised itself against the buildings in Manhattan before regaining the sensation of a morning frost dusting his skin, Credence letting out a weak cough before swallowing dryly. Who..? – ❞
Mary Anne Radmacher, Live Boldly
Tina Goldstein loved Credence Barebone like a son, pass it on.
❝ – They know what to do, they know how to fix me- A relieved sob escaped cracked lips when the woman before himself offered aid, chestnut brown eyes shimmering with both the glow of tears and hope as the group surrounding him lowered their wands, the young man feeling the familiar pang of a nauseated fear settle in his stomach as the other approached him with caution, his scarred skin finally losing its discoloration as the Obsurus dissipated away to offer everyone more safety. Any thanks that formed in Barebone’s throat faltered away when he was overcome with emotion; eyebrows knitted in misery as his words slipped past his grasp like rainwater against a weather-worn palm, and his fractured hiccups echoed in the demolished corridor despite the rushing of automobiles and crowds from above. – ❞
❝ – If Credence had even a recollection of what might have happened upon burning the instructive card; the plume of smoke that flared into existence on the far side of his dismal room and unlocked a gate to an unknown area was the farthest from any guess he could have dreamed, the young man’s chestnut eyes transitioning from curiosity to absolute fear when two well dressed men stepped through the doorway. No, no, no- the man from earlier: the one who had murdered someone else without even a flinch.
Letting out a stifled gasp when one of the two approached without seeming to have any care for personal boundaries, Barebone retreated until his back pressed against the nearest wall and his heart slammed against his ribs with anxiety, a terrified gaze averting to his own feet as one of the others spoke of his lack of bravery- but at this very moment; Credence was nearly thankful for his faltering courage. “I-I saw the card and d-didn’t know- I..” A wave of body-halting fear spread over the young man just like the first time the two had met, and the thin man swallowed thickly before just beginning to pray that the two didn’t slit his throat like the man that now either remained slack against the storm drain, or somewhere he cared not to think about. Hearing a sudden jostle of noise down the stairway, Credence’s body jumped against the quick sound before he began to hyperventilate- Ma was coming up the stairs, the man from earlier appeared out of his wall, they were going to kill him. Wisps of dark matter began to crawl away from Barebone’s quaking and slouched form like sand spilling from a fractured hourglass, and the dark hues that had danced with fear now glossed over into the shades of a rampant tempest when tears trickled down ashen cheeks that froze halfway down. Pain rippled across his body before the young man let out a hoarse scream that brought with it a chilling silence- then the Obsurial that lay just under his skin burst to life. It was jarringly quick- the structures, beams, and bones of both the church and his mother snapping under an immense and sudden force that rendered the whole area besides the room completely demolished. Darkness seemed to swallow the whole area, winds whipped shattered glass, and among the middle of the hurricane of abyssal emotion lay Credence’s weightless form before it dropped to the ground back into reality, and all floating debris shattered to the floorboards with a harsh crash. Letting out a ragged sob before curling in on himself completely, Barebone hugged his knees close to his aching chest to try and just breathe- BROKEN, FREAK, HELP- – ❞

A warm-up sketch that got away from me a little bit? oops Art blog: questionartbox
You open your heart, open your mind, let somebody in. Take a walk through your past, the good and the bad, decide you can do this again. But it’s supposed to feel different, supposed to feel safe – safe like going home.
But just like sand, it slips through your hands, before you know it your faith is gone.
@macusamadampresident continued from here.
❝ – Credence’s throat felt raw with subdued tears- his whole body ached beyond a level of comprehension, scarred arms trembled like a leaf grasped by a harsh wind, his head thrummed with an immeasurably horrific foreign pain- and he remained huddled with scraped knees hugged against a heaving chest while fractured train tracks around them sung a reminder of his unconscious crimes. “ P-please, help me-” – ❞
❝ – Her anxiety was palpable; Credence hanging on to every word like it was a piece to a lifetime’s puzzle of heartache and confusion before creasing his brow at the woman’s statement, curious brown eyes flicking up towards the stranger before gazing around to scope if they were in any sort of danger. The very thought was chilling.
“O-okay.. Where should we go?” Barebone questioned in an anxious whisper before beginning to fiddle with the worn hat resting in his scarred hands unconsciously, his thin frame gaining a stronger appearance of rigidity the more time elapsed while the two stood without moving- though the young man prayed his blatant relief for finally getting answers wasn’t to obviously displayed. – ❞
❝ – Terror; teetering on the brink of both the most earth shattering discoveries and the fear of relapsing into a monster built on the void of emotion, Credence felt it nearly impossible to breathe as every question he had jammed in his tight throat rendered him speechless, quaking hands fidgeting with the worn fabrics of the young man’s jacket while his gaze remained lowered.
“I-I don’t know how to control it-” Over the course of several days, Credence had discovered that what parasitic link he held with a creature known as an Obscurus had murdered three people in cold blood, decimated buildings among many other things, and nearly broke the delicate balance maintained by a whole society of the magically gifted that kept mishaps and accidents concealed far away. All of this is my fault. – ❞
