You think you treat her right? You come home. Ask how her day was. She says “fine.” You nod and move on because that’s the easy answer. The convenient answer. The answer that doesn’t require you to look any deeper. Then one day you’re shocked when she feels distant. Shocked when she stops coming to you with things. Shocked when she starts carrying parts of herself somewhere else. Funny how that works. You know how to treat her right? Pay attention when she gets quieter. Notice when her smile looks tired. Notice when she’s carrying something and pretending she isn’t. Listen to the things she doesn’t say. That’s where the real version of her lives. The worried version. The overwhelmed version. The version hoping someone notices she’s struggling before she has to ask for help. Most men don’t become observant until she’s already halfway out the door. By then they’re not paying attention because they love her. They’re paying attention because they’re scared. And those are two very different things.
