let your characters LIE

Let them omit, stumble, and circumvent. Allow them to be completely unable to express what they're feeling.

Make them unable to admit the truth. Let them sit in silence because they can't think of anything clever to say. Let them say the exact wrong thing!

What your character actually says should be three degrees of separation away from what they mean to say. (said Dee Rees in her BAFTA lecture)

Let them shut up, and let them lie.

Ryo does every once in a while, especially when he wants to for that certain someone special.

He's decent at it. His attempts are edible, at least, though maybe a bit lacking somewhere.

Ryo doesn't do it often unless he's in the mood for something sweet or it's a special occasion. So if he bakes something for your character, he's really doing it out of the goodness of his own heart.
