Juggling Butterflies
Emma Powell
no one will read this because this blurb is too long and peoples attention spans don’t last longer than a tweet but i thought writing this felt important nonetheless. its not for everyone. that’s okay. we’re taught that if your work doesn’t reach a lot of people it isn’t important. but when someone, even just one person, sees your work and has a connection to it, it means something too. and because it only appeals to one person, the work has more importance. like a pair of jeans that only fit you. intimacy can be important in the consumption of art not just conversation. there’s artistic intimacy. when a work of art deters so many people away that only a few are left standing. maybe even just one.
reminders for a bad day:
your worth is not just defined by how productive you are.
you don't have to prove anything to anyone.
you did your best, let it go.
you deserve to be treated kindly.
you deserve someone to be patient with you.
it's okay, we all make mistakes.
you can always choose to do things differently.
not every day is going to be the same.

Come here. Let me give you a hug. You're gonna be just fine. It will blow over. You will be happy again soon.
Shout out to those who got through the hardest parts of their life without anyone's help. You're all really strong. But also remember that you don't have to keep doing it. It's okay to ask for help.
heal from the narrative you told yourself in survival mode. heal from the narrative other people told you while they were in survival mode. it’s all false.
you did your best. you are good enough. you don’t have to operate out of fear anymore.
and i know what you’re thinking… “but i don’t have a choice.” you do. you can give yourself those moments of living and being present with yourself. even if it’s for five minutes.
everything doesn’t have to be processed right away, but you’ve got to stop operating as if time is running out and as if your life needs to play the background and be blurry as it moves by so quickly.
life isn’t as ephemeral as our trauma makes it seem. we have blocked parts out, and survival mode is how we compartmentalize and get it back. that’s okay, but it’s no way to live. it’s not sustainable.
it’s time to be sick of being on autopilot. stop surviving and start living.
Whenever you find yourself secondguessing your worth, affirm out loud I always deserve the best in life, I always deserve the best in life. Watch as your whole energy shifts, along with your self perception as well.

happiness comes in waves. it will find you again.💛
