I don’t know, y’all, I just fundamentally disagree with the idea that a character being “good” means they’re boring or lack complexity.

The world is often a brutal and unforgiving place, and good characters are not all living some charmed life that shields them from the traumas and challenges and harsh realities of that world. They are just finding a way to keep their goodness intact DESPITE those things. That is hard to do even once, let alone over and over again across an entire life. Honestly, a good person accessing the ability to consistently do the right things in a world that gives them every reason not to is arguably MORE emotionally complex than a morally gray person making the much easier choice to just give in sometimes to the ever-present temptation to be selfish, angry or uncaring.
