Splatoon Headcanon/Collaborative Project - Splatoon: The Vestigial Species
Featuring Sophie and Tracey, OCs of EnderCraft6418 on DeviantArt.
In my personal Splatoon headcanon, humans managed to narrowly avoid extinction, but not without experiencing a global social collapse, losing nearly all of their technological progress. The Mollusc Era takes place 2 million years after the fall of human civilization, and many human societies, technologically ranging from the Paleolithic to the Neolithic to the Bronze Age, coexist with the 21st century mollusc civilization by the events of the Splatoon series. This has historically resulted in a complicated and intriguing relationship between Turfling and human societies, as regardless of their diversity and uniqueness, these human societies lack the single core element of Inkling culture: the concept of ‘Freshness’. They appear to have the opposite attitude, being highly averse to change unless they see it as absolutely necessary to survive.
Splatoon: The Vestigial Species - Human Society Design Rules
I have intended for this headcanon of mine to be a collaborative project, meaning that I invite anyone who comes across this to come up with a design for a human society which exists in this headcanon! Below are the rules when designing your human society, so please read all of them carefully before beginning!
Use this map (Sea Level +50 Meters) and take a close look at every detail before deciding where you want your human society to be located. Then, highlight the geographic range of your human society in a fitting color.
It is recommended to use this map (Global map of Indigenous Skin Colors) when referencing skin colors for your human ethnicities, although a slight deviation is acceptable.
Besides the above rule, you are encouraged to make the physical features (especially facial features) of your human ethnicities as unique as possible! You can draw inspiration from ethnicities which exist in real life, but I discourage giving them too much of a resemblance.
You are encouraged to draw inspiration from this list of ancient archaeological cultures while also including your own unique elements when designing the culture of your human society: Europe | West Asia | North Africa | Sub-Saharan Africa | South Asia | Central Asia | East Asia | North Asia | Southeast Asia | Oceania | North America | Mesoamerica | South America
Your society must technologically be within one of these Periods: Upper Paleolithic | Mesolithic | Neolithic | Bronze Age | Iron Age (Sub-Saharan Africa only)
Please include an overview of your human society’s traditions. (Coming-of-age Ceremonies, Funerary Practices, Mythology, Religious Beliefs and Rituals, Body Ornamentation, etc.)
When you are finished, please send your design to me via my askbox so that I can review it. Please don't send it anonymously, so that I know who to give credit to if it's approved. If I approve it, then congrats! I’ll publish it, make it official, and give you credit! If I reject it, I will answer privately and include the reason as to why I rejected it. But don't be dissuaded if that happens, because you can revise it and resend it as many times as you want until I approve it!
Deadline: Splatoon 4 Release Date (I will update this when it is announced!)
