Mackerel salad

Whatever lettuce on hand, chopped fairly finely (bout 1/5-1/4 of a head for 1 person, just fill your bowl around halfway with it)

Cucumber, cooked beetroot and carrot, cubed (but works with whatever u got on hand)

Small handful of raisins

a tin of mackerel in tomato sauce

optional : 1 tablespoon natural yogurt for creamier dressing.

It’s an easy salad and I think it’s yummy, just wanted to share (:

Winter is bad because there are No Bugs

I look in the grass and there’s nothing crawling about. I miss beetles, I miss butterflies, I miss bees. Life feels like a Pokémon map with no Pokémon. I yearn for the return of the creepy crawlers.

Mushrooms

I just love mushrooms man. Idk why they get so much hate, long as they aren’t poisonous they make food taste so good. Anyway.

I was mostly referring to ones from the supermarket. But for foraging I’m not brave enough for anything but puffballs!

Delicious free tea

I foraged some tea and it tasted yummers so here’s the recipe thing

fermented dried bramble leaves (harvest June)

dried blackcurrants (July)

dried blackcurrant leaves (July)

dried wild strawberry leaves (July)

dried herb Robert leaves and flowers (July)

dried red clover petals (July)

I didn’t measure anything I just got a couple handfuls of each, stuck it in the dehydrator and put in a bit of each until it smelled good lol. It’s super yummers. (This is in Ireland btw, kinda relevant for the ingredients I guess). Just pop in a heaped teaspoon of the tea into hot water, let it stew to your liking and enjoy!

(btw this was all from the field outside my house, which I know wasn’t sprayed with anything! Please be safe with your foraging, and triple check your plant identification sources!!)

I love foraging but also I hate it because you’ll be like wow I found this native plant and it will be the most delectable snack you have ever had the pleasure of chowing down on. But. You can only eat three or it will crazy murder you. And there are many other plants that look exactly like it and guess what. They gonna crazy murder you too. Also you will never find it ever again.
