@jennhoney :#is that Black Phillip ass Turkey trying to live deliciously with a cross country skier?View post
Seriously, this is somehow adorable and goofy and also a close encounter with something very eldritch. You can stop romanticising spooky deer; there's spooky grouse now.
#is this that motherfucker that made those weird ass sounds#different than this#that one was white
@indiiglow Yup, two different birds.
While the willow grouse (the white bird, tho only white during winter) is smaller and relatively harmless, the capercaillie (the black one) is big and will not hesitate to throw hands and fuck you up.
Did you know that many gastropods can create a pearl, including terrestrial snails? The difference is nacre which is only found in some species of mollusks and which which gives pearls their beautiful shine. Terrestrial snails occasionally produce very small translucent white pearls which are usually lost. One non-nacre secreting sea snail, the melo melo, produces gorgeous pearls that are extremely prized and rare.
Conches can also produce pearls.
Paua (also called abalone) can make pearls as well- though they are only half-pearls (called mabel pearls)

calcified secretions from mucus
im going crazy you have GOT to decouple romance/amatonormativity and marriage in your mind. you have GOT to understand that marriage is a legal document that protects you from exploitation especially if you are a woman or a stay-at-home anything. it is not some evil unique to heterosexual people. it is a legal document that says 'this is who i want in my hospital room when i die, this is who i want to have my stuff when i die, THIS PERSON OWES ME RECOMPENSE IF THEY KICK ME OUT OF THE HOUSE I LIVE IN"
You are not immune to being taken advantage of by your partner if you are queer. do not wind up homeless because your garbage live-ins name is on the lease and they decided to drop you like hot coals.
Adding to this:
This is why it is not assimilationist for gay/queer people to want to enshrine marriage rights in their country/region
Similarly, this is why polyamorous people are fighting for the right to have their relationships recognised by their states through marriage and/or similar agreements
Oh, and because on top of those aforementioned financial and medical protections, these laws also help you maintain connection to any kids you have and/or raise together!
I would go further and say, this is why we really should be looking to expand some of these rights so that marriage is NOT the only way they should be enshrined. (e.g. Why could I get married tonight to a guy I met this morning, and get him on my health insurance, but I cannot do the same for a sibling?)
Remember the fight for same sex marriage was never “we feel left out”, it was “we’re sick and not allowed to see each other. We’re dying and not allowed at the funeral. Someone who kicked me out at 14 just showed up for the first time 24 years later to tell the doctor to pull the plug, and they did.”
Marriage is a legal documentation of rights. Fully agree with prev that those rights should be divested from the concept of monogamy entirely, but for now we have to at least understand what they are
genuinely i don't think you can decouple the fight for marriage equality in america from the aids epidemic. like. there is a direct and easy to see correlation between how many people were dying of aids in hospitals and their significant others were not allowed to see them, be with them as they were ill and dying, or be told their medical information because they were not in a legally recognized marriage. that made a huge impact on the queer community's outlook and if it's not THE main reason for the push for marriage equality, it is at least one of the top factors.
the spin to rewrite marriage equality as assimilation i think came about because so many people - a lot of cishets but also queers - started treating it as an "endgame" to queer rights - this was more in the late 2000s. and so people started scoffing at it as a genuine step in queer equality or a way to "be like th straights" or w/e because there was this attitude that it was the "easy" step or that it wasn't enough or that it was just some kind of window dressing right to get.

A giant colonial spiderweb in a sulfuric cave on the border between Greece and Albania may be the largest ever found — and it was built by s
most common household invertebrates originate from caves so it's not that weird that this was done by T. domestica of all things but it's still incredibly funny. are you telling me the guy who lives behind the furniture could do this if i got him a few friends
if you're using this post as an excuse to spout redditor ass comments about how spiders are the devil you're getting entombed in the sulfur cave cask of amontillado style until you behave
@bogleech check out the spider supercomplex
SPIDER METROPOLIS!
You're missing the coolest part though, the spider city contains two different spider species!
nice
What's really interesting about the two species is that apparently T. domestica usually eat P. vagans, but here they don't! The article says they think it might be because they can't see that well in the cave.
the web stretches 1100 sq ft
it begins 164 ft from the entrance
the spiders eat clouds of midges that hover in the cave
the midges eat biofilms secreted by bacteria on the cave walls
the bacteria “eat” (oxidize) hydrogen sulfide from a spring-fed stream that flows through the cave
live science fucked up—it’s not the world’s biggest spiderweb, just the biggest one supported by a non-solar food web
the cave’s food web also supports centipedes, beetles, mites, and pseudoscorpions
No I’m not attracted to you. Quit your evil putting your finger under my chin to make me look up at you. I know I’m your nemesis and all but we really need to set some boundaries when you’ve got me tied up like this.
No look I get it. You’ve got your evil plan, you’ve gotta get me out of the way but you also want to see me suffer as I watch the world burn, I know. But like, I’m not into this. Sexually or otherwise. Wait, you thought I was doing this because I liked you? I’m trying to stop you from using a death laser. No I don’t think death lasers are sexy what on earth are you talking about
Wait. That’s why you dress like that? I thought that armor was impractical. No I don’t find our relationship to be homoerotic I find it to be tedious. Look, man. We all keep trying to get you into therapy. No I’m not kink shaming you I’m saying you’ve completely misinterpreted this relationship. I actually do think you should answer for your war crimes. Yes, really. No you’re the one not listening to me in this situation. Yes that is the alarm the others will have cut all your wires and called in the fbi by now.
What do you mean you thought we had something special? I have other enemies. You’re not the only one. No I’m not doing kinky things with them either I blow up their nefarious devices. Speaking of which, you might want to move like… ten feet to your right.
No, enemies to enemies. And then still enemies.
Cannot stress enough how lovers will never be part of this equation even a little bit
The henchmen in the tags who have been assuring the villain since the beginning that “of course he likes you back, why else would he keep coming to destroy your death lasers”
The henchmen have been reading too many romance novels.
Awfully defensive are we? I think the henchmen are onto something.
You know I didn’t intend for this character I made up to be aromantic but this whole post has turned into being arospec at a family reunion simulator
@i-suggest-aro
"cannot stress enough how lovers will never be a part of this equation even a little bit" is how i feel explaining every single one of my stories
#man icl reading through that pissed me off a little#stupidly heavy insistence on romance when theres already an interesting dynamic to play on#enemies to enemies is severely underrated
Half the internet is like an intrusive aunt who sees you (twelve years old) hanging out with a friend who happens to be a different gender and is like "OOOOH is that your BOY/GIRLFRIEND???" and never shuts up about it and this is the only conversation they will have with you whenever your friend comes up.
I used to think I was manipulative bc I would sometimes make certain facial expressions/use body language that would make people see how I was feeling. Then I realised that that is called expressing yourself and I might be autistic
