I try to keep my peace about true crime stuff since it's really not my table but honestly the ongoing paparazzi shit they're doing about Nancy Guthrie is starting to really piss me off. Especially with news people interviewing random ass people who aren't part of the case to try and guestimate what happened like they have some secret glimpse into a crime scene they never stepped foot in.
Ffs an elderly woman was kidnapped from her home in the dead of night. She may very well be dead. This is the plot of hundreds of horror movies and novels because humans recognize, innately, how horrifying that is. And her daughter and family are being dragged through the media circuit when they need HELP and SUPPORT because everyone wants the hot goss of what it's like to live the horror novels.
The oversaturation of news stories has led to the family getting multiple false random notes and phone calls from sick fucks trying to take advantage of what is probably the most horrible event in this families' lifetime for monetary gain. The amount of attention given to this case hasn't helped police or the family, and frankly it might end up inspiring copycats who want a piece of that spotlight.
If you can't help, Leave them the FUCK alone.
Crawling back onto my pedestal to say FUCK EVERYONE messing with this family. And I mean EVERYONE. That fucking true crime livestreamer, that retired agent who keeps butting in with 'new theories' they've pulled out of their ass, the people trying to extort the worst days of their lives for money, the news reporters feeding on the conflict.
This isn't a game, or a prank, or a cool moment for tiktok. Malicious people broke into a house with the intention of harming/kidnapping an elderly woman with a heart monitor. There's few crimes more disgusting than harming someone who can't fight back- this isn't a glamorous mystery, or a way to be chasing clout online. Leave. The Guthries. Alone.
The more crime is sensationalized, the more the perpetrator feels powerful. There's a non-zero chance of this becoming a trend in crime now that it's become such a hot-ticket attention item. Stop feeding the minds of the kinds of people who do these things with positive attention.
