“VRSE.works presents “Clouds Over Sidra”, a virtual reality film for the United Nations in partnership with Samsung. The film was commissioned as part of the UN’s advocacy at the World Economic Forum in Davos to state and business leaders and offers a unique perspective into the lives of the world’s most vulnerable people.

“Clouds Over Sidra” follows a twelve year old in the Za’atari camp in Jordan – home to 84,000 Syrian refugees. It follows her to school, to her makeshift tent and even to the football pitch.  “At the UN, we consistently strive to bring citizens’ perspectives into the decision making process anyway possible” said Gabo Arora, Senior advisor at the UN.  “By leveraging breakthrough technologies, such as virtual reality, we can create solidarity with those who are normally excluded and overlooked, amplifying their voices and explaining their situations.”

It’s the first ever film shot in virtual reality for the UN, using the medium to generate greater empathy and new perspectives on people living in conditions of great vulnerability. The film’s powerful capacity to allow anyone on a global scale experience life within a refugee camp has the ability to inspire the message of hope amongst not only the millions displaced but also those motivated to act.”

A lovely idea: THE OBSESSIVELY DETAILED MAP OF AMERICAN LITERATURE'S MOST EPIC ROAD TRIPS.

The above map is the result of a painstaking and admittedly quixotic effort to catalog the country as it has been described in the American road-tripping literature. It includes every place-name reference in 12 books about cross-country travel, from Mark Twain’s Roughing It (1872) to Cheryl Strayed’s Wild (2012), and maps the authors’ routes on top of one another. You can track an individual writer’s descriptions of the landscape as they traveled across it, or you can zoom in to see how different authors have written about the same place at different times.

"The First 360° Documentary" : The Polar Sea

The Polar Sea is a multi-platform 10-hour journey through the fabled, beautiful – and melting – Northwest Passage, that combines TV, web and virtual reality elements. Conceived as an immersive Arctic experience, Polar Sea 360 follows a three-man expedition on the Swedish sailboat Dax, as it travels 9,000km from Reykjavik, Iceland, to the Aleutian Islands of Alaska.

On TV, the Polar Sea project is a 90mins film, Polar Sea: The Northwest Passage, and a ten part documentary series called Polar Sea 360.

Available in three languages, French, English and German, the interactivePolar Sea 360 website features an extensive online magazine comprising more than a hundred contributions from adventurers, scientist, artists, and locals living and travelling along the Northwest Passage. The magazine expands on the TV series and connects viewers to a comprehensive, 360°  multi-perspective understanding of the Arctic.
