it’s clear in his tone that harry isn’t thrilled to see him. which is predictable. some of the vks were still having trouble adjusting. not that apollo blamed them. although it did seem that pirates in particular were having trouble. he shrugged, adjusting the guitar strap around his shoulders. “oh nothing, just checking in.” he replied casually. of course he figured the young hook should be in class right now, but whether he went or not wasn’t any of his business. he’s not the counselor. “how’re classes going?” a subtle way to hint that it’s where he was meant to be right now.

ugh, why were adults in auradon like this? back on the isle, you were left alone as long as you weren’t causing trouble, and if you were causing trouble, you were either encouraged, made the adult in question run away, or ran away yourself. none of these pleasantries and questions and... things. it made the teenager feel extremely uncomfortable and immediately on guard. “ ye dinnae need tae bother, “ he replied, laying back down on the grass. “ ah’m ol’ enough and big enough tae look after meself. “ he huffed at the question. “ aye, they’re fine. “ it occurred to him that this was, in fact, a teacher. someone who could potentially argue that he was too rough and get him sent back to the isle. was it worth testing the boundaries? “ ain’t feelin’ ‘em today. “

flannery blinked slowly at the suggested way to help before he laughed, rubbing the back of his neck. “ can’t say fractions were’n the most important subject on the isle, or in wonderland, “ he replied with a sheepish smile. “ but if yer got a pack o’ cards, i might ‘ave a trick or two for ya. alternatively, i can be a stand in. “ to demonstrate, he allowed his legs to fade slowly out of view and then back in again. people could be fractions too, right?

it tugged at heartstrings she'd long pretended she didn't have, seeing the celebration in the park, and yet she couldn't help but be amused by the humans and their birthday celebrations. they were correct; they needed to celebrate their short lives in this world, to enjoy the bountiful seasons she provided while they could. persephone couldn’t begrudge such a thing; the everyday human wasn’t responsible for what had happened to her family, and as much as she’d prefer to have remained with them rather than go to olympus, the humans needed their springs and summers, and deep down she couldn’t help but oblige. it was literally part of her nature.

that didn’t mean it overrode her own joy, however, at finding her daughter not so far away, here in auradon as she'd discovered. the goddess walked over to her beloved child, arms spread wide so she could place her hands either side of her daughter’s shoulders as she took her in. “ let me look at you,“ she said. it didn’t matter if her daughter never chose to change her age again, she would always check her children were healthy and happy. “ as radiant as ever, my bloom, “ she breathed, taking a step back. “ i’m so pleased to see you in the light of the sun again. “

being away from her husband and her children for six months of the year had always been hard on persephone. she loved her family with all her heart and soul, and to be separated from them was more pain than mere pomegranate seeds could create. it was for that reason she’d found it difficult to decide whether to go to the human realm and be with her children or go back to the underworld to her husband; it wasn’t like she couldn’t change her mind, switch between the two, but with the changes to auradon’s laws, she believed perhaps they could all return to the human world and enjoy a few centuries or more away from the depths of the underworld. 

that being said, she hadn’t actually spotted any of her children until now. catching a glimpse of nico, the goddess of spring couldn’t help but smile. oh, how she had missed him. how strong he looked, how healthy. thriving, just like the blooms around them. she didn’t usually rush, but as whenever she returned from olympus, she couldn’t wait a second longer than necessary. “ excuse me, i hate to disturb you, but i think i might recognise you from somewhere“ she said, tone teasing.

Zero chuckled as he saw the coffee spill down himself and he just waved his hand and shook his head. “It’s alright. If you knew the amount of crap I got on me every single day from the shelter, you’d know that this is nothing.” Zero said with a smile and leaned back in his backpack and getting some napkins. “I just feel bad that you spilled everything. I left it here after my tutoring session.” Nova said feeling a little nervous part of her just wanted to let him read it and leave it alone but she still wanted to let her student finish it since he had been doing so well with it.

“I think the library has another copy of it in the science fiction section i-if you like it.”

felix looked from the woman to the book in his hands, that he’d been certain he’d picked up off the shelves. it wasn’t that he didn’t believe her, but that... well, he’d been here for a little bit and he was actually quite enjoying it. he turned the book over in his hands, checked the front pages and sure enough... “ sorry, “ he replied sheepishly, holding it out for her to take back. “ i’ll go see if the other copy’s actually here. “

At Harry’s exclamation, he laughed. “Never said you were but figured you could maybe ‘have surprised me,” Phoenix said and stood up as he started shutting things down. It was time for his lunch break in the back room anyways. “Yes, exactly that. D’you really want ta go back?” he asked before shaking his head. “come on, I need ta eat.”

harry blinked as he absorbed those words. of course his sister managed to get a ship so quickly. she was enterprising, intelligent; a lot of the things harry knew damn well he didn’t quite fall under. it was one of the many reasons he was jealous of his sister on occasion, despite adoring her. “ already go’ a cap’n. i ain’t no traitor, “ he replied to the suggestion, almost offended that phoenix would consider it. he decided it was better not to dwell on the insinuation in the other man’s words - the crew were just the crew, they didn’t mean anything special at all. nope. not at all.

the pirate rolled his eyes as he stood up, quite prepared to follow phoenix and potentially steal some of his food. almost definitely; he was eating a lot better over here, but he still hadn’t quite accepted he could just ask for food instead of stealing it. “ do ye really wan’tae stay here? “ harry countered, giving phoenix a pointed look. “ maybe i dinnae wan’tae go back to the isle, but i dinnae... “ he paused, trying to think of the right words. “ auradon dinnae feel righ’. “

Esme jumped back when he went for her legs moving her sword protectively to meet his before she swept to the side and whacked him in the back with the blade 

“First point, I win welcome to Auradon’s first fencing team.” Esme said to him smiling she felt rather proud of herself she had beaten a pirate.  “Practice starts monday right here immediately after class, We’ll see if we can get you some padding.” 

She wasn’t sure if he’d actually stand by his word she didn’t really expect him to but sometimes people surprised you, she couldn’t wait to tell her uncle Quasi about it (he would be more excited than her dad would be.)

harry wasn’t entirely sure what happened. one moment, he’d been going in for the kill and the next, he had a blade whacking him across the back and a very delighted girl all but beaming at him in the most disconcerting way. he frowned and picked up the sword he’d dropped in surprise, waving it at her. “ ye said it were three points! “ he accused, scowling. but the scowl gave way to a grin. “ but ah like t’see a little dishonesty o’er ‘ere, “ he added. harry dropped the sword pointedly and headed back towards the exit. “ don’t ye hold yer breath, lass, “ he said as a goodbye... although, in truth, he was intrigued enough that he was likely to come back.
