Romance: She loves her husband, though many doubt it. She cares for him, she enjoys his company but she has known him since she was 5 and the relationship never became romantic. She knows that her relationship with Marius would please many woman in bad marriages but she still feels unhappy being in a relationship with a man who barely looks at her than more than a sister, caregiver.
She has been with other men and though she tries to keep it private, there is always slip ups. Many rumours circulate the french court of her son being another man’s child. She is used to such rumours but this rumour scares her. She does not know if it is true or not.
Headcanons / Bio
Claudine was born to young parents. A duke mourning his father and leaving him the heavy burden of keeping the family line going, and a young lady of Bavaria with distant ties to royalty and a family that reaching for the stars but having to settle with a duke whose father was a bastard for a majority of his life.
When Claudine was born, they were expecting a son but instead got a little chubby healthy baby girl that looked like both of them but neither them at the same time. It was hard to not love her and her parents did. There would always be more time for sons but a daughter you can cherish.
But that time did not come, a sickness swept through the small family and as Claudine and her mother recovered, her father did not. With his last energy, he wrote a will that stated that Duchess Elizabeth would be young Claudine’s regent before he passed. Claudine was barely 5 and she already a duchess to significant duchy and as soon as her father’s last breath left his body, the vultures descended.
Her father had gathered many political enemies and when they saw the young dowager duchess and her even younger daughter, they knew they could ruin the legacy of François d’Auvergne. They got the regency council of the young king to revoke the regency of Duchess Elizabeth Wittelsbach and instead have Claudine be raised in the French court with the royal children and the crown instead be the controllers of the duchy until Claudine reached a suitable age. So she was sent to Paris and her mother’s family brought her back home and than married her off again. There was many hopes of the young duchess passing, as many young children do but she proved strong. They started searching for husband than, one they could control. During this time, Claudine started to become a vivacious child than young adolescent and many visiting royals and nobles become interested in this beautiful little duchess. Marriage proposals started coming in and the council knew they had to work fast to make sure the Duchy of Auvergne did not land in foreign hands, they engaged her to the young prince de sang.
Claudine was happy with the arrangement when she was young, she loved Marius and even King Louis but when she reached an age she could understand, she started to realize that it was a complicated political stragedy to keep her in control and her family’s duchy in the Crown’s hands. But there was not much to do as she married at the age of 16 and become the Princesse Du Sang.
Eventually she did take control her duchy, it was her given right. But with being the wife to the King’s only brother, she has to rely on the old man from before that hoped she would die young, so she could stay at court. She currently is focused on her son and her place at court, hoping to gain allies along the way.
