Titanic thought for a long moment before nodding. “Yeah, I am sure it is. I mean, they have all sorts of websites. You can become a minister online, why not a monk?” He put his arms behind his head. “But, I don’t think Monks can drink. So that might be an issue.”
“right, right,” aiden nodded to himself, trying to picture himself in some orange cloth, praying 5 h o u r s a day. at titanic’s words, he raised an eyebrow, looking questioning at the man in front of him. “isn’t that a thing? celibacy, no alcohol, devoting your life to GOD and all that??”
Grayson grimaced at the thought of drinking black coffee, or coffee in general as he thought the taste closely resembled what he imagined tar might taste like. “Food lover, mostly. My mother’s a chef, so I really had no hope but to know the bare minimum about some things along with just personal preferences.”
“not t h a t into coffee i assume,” aiden nodded, gesturing to the look on the other male’s face. “you must be the only person, who can NEVER complain about mama’s cooking then, yeah? that must’ve been nice growing up.”
“Of course, health always comes first. I won’t lie it would be a struggle for me to quite it as well.” Diana returned his smile, knowing very well childhood memories were special to a lot of people. “Who really wants to let go of a childhood that’s always dear to them? There are some things you don’t have to let go of.” Diana perked up when the barista handed her the coffee before moving her gaze back to Aiden. “So does this mean you were having something with whip cream just before I came?” A teasing smile on her face.
“yeah i mean luckily for me i didn’t get my degree in nutrition– i probably wouldn’t be able to live with myself or the amounts of wine and whipped cream i consume daily,” aiden shook his head to himself, a slight chuckle leaving him. “you know, i think you’re right about that. a little nostalgia never hurt anyone, yeah?” keeping childhood memories close was definitely not something unfamiliar to the male. his photographic memory and constant over- analyzing led to his brain almost just serving the purpose of an old memory-card. “you caught me,” another chuckle left his mouth, as he returned the smile the girl was giving him. “i’m getting the feeling i can’t hide any of my guilty pleasures from you..”

I want excitement; and I don’t care what form it takes or what I pay for it, so long as it makes my heart beat.
F. Scott Fitzgerald, “The Adjuster” (via wordsnquotes)
taking yet another long drink from the wine glass at hand, bentley was doing his very best to pace himself although in reality all he wanted to do was down the entire damn glass in one go. but then again, he wanted to appear at least somewhat civil and adult in front of aiden, right? “italian wine.. huh,” he spoke almost to himself, eyeing the darkness of it before letting his gaze flicker upward once more to the other male. god, there was still that funny tension in the air, weighing it down and making it heavy surrounding the both of them – something that bentley couldn’t quite put his finger on and wasn’t entirely sure if he truly wanted to. he didn’t want to think too much about whatever this was; he didn’t want to think about the way that whenever their eyes met his throat went dry and he felt a funny little shiver up his spine. nope, no. he didn’t want to admit that there was some sort of unspoken connection right off the bat, something between them that he’d never really felt spark within him and another being before.. ever. as aiden moved to come join bentley on the couch, the boy was forced to drag himself away from the many thoughts at hand that were currently swimming rapidly through his mind. their proximity had him pausing, already feeling the warmth and effects from the alcohol beginning to spread throughout his body. “about you,” he confirmed, repeating the words and giving a bit of a nod, the hand that dropped to his thigh causing lips to part silently for a moment before he pressed them together once more. there was some sort of spark it seemed, warmth radiating from where aiden’s hand was placed, causing him to want to almost lean instinctively into the touch. instead, bentley pushed those thoughts away and chose to sip at the wine some more, wanting to feel the effects of it even more quickly. “and curious about all of this, too,” bentley continued as he lowered the glass then, shrugging some. “i mean, you’re clearly – older than me, and uh.. more successful, and all of that. so we can’t possibly be meant to actually be together or anything,” he frowned some, brow furrowing at the thought before a slight laugh escaped him suddenly – it was sort of funny, really. this had to be a.. prank, or a mistake or .. something.
inhale, exhale. count to ten. when aiden was in medical school he was taught over a thousand ways to keep calm in stressful situations. he had been taught exactly how to keep his cool, when everything was falling down around him. years of training, yet when he looked at the boy in front of him he felt as if he never had a single class. his thoughts were racing in a constant circle. what will this mean?? would they have to move together to make it work?? would bentley even want to explore this, them?? what would change?? h o w would it change?? somehow it was only with his eyes focused on the brown-haired boy that he could make it all stop. he felt as if his hand on his thigh might burn through the fabric, the electric tension running through his hand. aiden coughed when he realised he was staring, taking another sip of the glass in his hand. he might need some more liquid courage for this one. “what about me? tell me what you’re thinking about, bentley,” the words left him in a tone much more calm than he’d expect, when his heart was pounding through his chest. he ran his tongue over his lips, letting the small taste of wine savour on the tip of his tongue. waiting for the boy to reply, he removed his hand only to tuck a stray lock behind his ear. he listened to him, his concerns, the obvious worry that was spilling from his mouth. “i understand that you’re confused. it’s all a bit new, yeah? i don’t-- i don’t think all this,” his eyes glanced around the room, a simple arm gesture implying the meaning of his words. “it’s not who i am. my success is something that i’m proud of, medicin is my way to make a living, but it’s not all that i am.” he sighed, reflecting on the boy’s words once more, trying to find the right way to put what he wanted to say. taking another sip of wine, he took a deep breath before he spoke again. “you’re right; i am older. maybe even by ten years. i’m also allergic to lactose and can’t stand green beans. i don’t think this-- it doesn’t have to mean we’re the same. we’ll probably like different things, be different things, but--” aiden stopped himself once again, this time to place his hand on top of bentley’s. he let it linger for a moment, soaking himself in the feeling, the craving. “i think t h i s is what it’s supposed to mean.”
“It’s getting me through my life, tumblin’. Like a tumble weed.” Maca muttered sarcastically. “Depends on what the third option is.”
“right, obviously. how is the human-tumble weed hybrid life going?” he asked, raising his eyebrows. “well you could also just try to work it out with the person, talk to them and make it clear that it’s done? might be too much of an adult option, but it’s there.
Hannah’s eyes flickered from his face, to the cup in her hands, a wide grin on her face as she let out, “Oh man, something that definitely will not make me feel as good as what you’re about to drink. It’s some sort of chocolate-caramel-frappuccino,” she shrugged. “Your body is going to love you after you’re done with your drink, and mine is going to internally scream and shut down,” the girl added, taking a sip.
“hm well you might be right, but i can’t help thinking my tastebuds just might internally scream and shut down before i even get to finishing this,” raising the hand the leafy drink was in in reference. “caramel and whipped cream have always been my two guilty pleasures,” he grinned moving towards the counter. “what’s yours?”
“I don’t know… Maybe you can go through his file? You can probably catch something I’m missing? This is the first time I’ve ever been stuck on a case.” Her arm lifted to point to the Manila envelope on her vanity dresser. “It’s over there… Taunting me.”
“’course,” he nodded, lookign towards the dresser. “what’s the case about? are we trying to catch someone d a n g e r o u s?” his playful tone combined with the smile plastered on his face. when aiden was younger his biggest dream was to become a detective like barnaby, however throughout many games of sherlock homes: uncovered, it became evident he was less than skilled in that department.
“Western themed bars were always lame, okay? You and whoever you hung out with in your early twenties were just weirdos.” Again, Stevie attempted to keep a straight face and failed, giving into the temptation to laugh. “I promise I will never let you make that same mistake again and we’ll just stick to normal bars with flashing lights and house music.” She hit him in a playful manner as her own version of punishment for his chosen words. “It wasn’t that bad. Not enough people around for it to effect my pride drastically.”
“i’m way too old for bars now, steph. i think if i tried to get in, they’d ask me if i wanted a senior’s discount..” he chuckled along with her, letting the laughter flow through him. “we were quite cool back then, you know?? we had this v i b e and everyone just wanted to be us. it’s obvious that that time is behind me now,” aiden wasn’t sure if it was this comment or another that spiked the sudden hit towards his arm. he gasped in shock, a playful grin playing on his lips as he looked up at stephanie. “ow!! i think i might need a doctor!! is it bleeding?? how could you do this to me??”
