“i know there are things i’ll be strict with, but for the most part, i just want her to be a kid and let her do what she wants as long as she’s safe and not getting into trouble. i want her to have that freedom and give her the chance for me to trust her, instead of making her earn it first, yanno? i need to give her the chance before i know if i can or not,” she shrugged. “piper is also easier to spell and pronounce. and honestly, she looks like a piper.”

“i think that’s admirable,” amelia admitted with a soft smile. no matter how hard it was for her to be around parents, she knew it was inevitable and missing her mother was never going to get any easier. “she might not appreciate it but at least she’ll know you’re doing something a lot of people don’t get.” her shoulders shrugged thinking about it. she was the last person to give anyone advice on anything, for multiple reasons. “that’s true too,” she laughed. “i’ve never understood that thing of people looking like their names, but i guess i see what you mean.”

AVA FAULKNER.

make up is one thing that ava has cupboards for ― a whole chest of drawers, more like ― that and her extensive wardrobe, but that is another thing in itself. “please, practice makes perfect so i couldn’t be mad at you for trying.” the blonde reassures, quickly hoping off her bed and heading to her eyebrow drawer ( yes, an entire drawer for eyebrow products ). “you’re brows are a bit darker than mine, so let’s try… this.” plucking out a product, ava shuts the drawer and paces over excitedly. “why do i feel like you’ve mentioned that before? please don’t tell me they killed people based off of their zodiac sign.” ava almost pleads hopefully. 

“i’m just saying, it might turn out atrocious-- and if that’s the case, you’re welcome to keep trying. there’s a chance i’m not as well versed with any of this as i pretend i am.” amelia laughed, shaking her head. she folded her legs beneath her and straightened up, watching as ava rummaged through her drawers for the right product. “what got you so into this stuff, anyway?” she asked, her curiosity genuine. “--oh god, no.” amelia laughed quickly, shaking her head. “i kind of thought that at first too, though. but i probably have mentioned it before, knowing me.”

AISLING WARD-LOWELL.

an exasperated sigh escapes her lips as aisling wipes her hands on the tea towel hanging from her apron and leans against the counter, counting the seconds until her shift ends. however, it seemed as though she may have to do a bit of overtime as her cover hadn’t arrived yet and she was desperately hoping that wasn’t the case. it wasn’t as though she hated her job, it was just that she had closed up last night and worked the early shift this morning so she could do with a nap. the bell rings, snapping her out of her daze and she straightens up when the next customer approaches her till,  “oh, i’m not -,” she stutters out but changes her mind half-way. she can’t turn away a customer just because it wasn’t her shift anymore. what’s one more anyways? “what can i get you?”

amelia knows that look well -- it’s the look of someone who just wants to go home. no matter how much she enjoyed serving, between her own shifts and her coworkers, there comes a point either right when or before cuts that you get desperate to leave. “i was just wanting to get a large iced mocha,” she spoke, offering a small apologetic smile. “-- but if i need to wait for the other barista, i can.” amelia added as an offer, incapable of stopping herself.

COURTNEY BAIRD.

  she  was okay with  her  sitting  down,   thats  good.  courtney  was  happy  about  that  as  she  didn’t  want  to  intrude  so  much.  lips  pressed  and  she  nodded  her  head.  “no  ,  no  ,  its  okay. and  sometimes  it’s  good  to  get  lost  in  things.  especially  if  you  enjoy  them.”

“i do it more than i should admit, probably.” amelia let out a quiet laugh. she didn’t see much problem in how easily absorbed she could get, but it didn’t take many annoyed glances to realize others didn’t always feel the same way. “-- but i’m pretty sure it’s too much of a habit to change at this point.”

FELICIA ARMSTRONG.

felicia raised an eyebrow at the others words. she was good at reading people, amelia more specifically, and because of that she could also tell when the other was holding back. she chewed her lower lip, reaching across the table and taking amelia’s hands in hers, “you know you can tell me anything right?” she let out a chuckle, nodding her head which turned into a smile, the first genuine smile she had on her face in days. “of course you did, but that’s totally ok because the feeling is mutual.” she tilted her head to the side, squinting slightly, “i’m ok. lannan is still a dick which isn’t really earth shattering information.”

there was no easy way to admit that her father was what she couldn’t stop thinking about. at least not without saying too much about things she didn’t want to say out loud yet. “i do. promise.” she smiled, feeling a sense of calm all at once. it was hard not to when she was with felicia, no matter what she did. “i kind of figured, but good to know it isn’t just me.” she laughed, squeezing her hand. amelia sighed quietly to herself at the mention of lannan, but it wasn’t something unfamiliar to her; jealousy ran deep, and she hated it. “what'd he do?”

“i hope so. i just want the best for her. i want her to be happy. healthy. i want her to be everything she wants to be even if it means taking her to the grocery store in a tutu, galoshes, and a bathing suit,” she said with a small laugh.”not necessarily for all of us — but i am. i just hope she grows up to know that she can come to me with anything. no matter how old she is. i’d rather her cry in my arms than all by herself,” whisper said as she kissed piper’s head. “i was really close to naming her alessandra as her first name, but i’ve met people named alessandra before, i’ve never met a piper, so i wanted it to be something unique and uncommon.”

“now, there’s an outfit.” amelia laughed warmly as she pictured it. little kids were something she had next to no experience with (even former foster siblings, regardless of age, had kept their distance if they were little) but she could appreciate them for what they were. “i’m sure just knowing that will be good for her. it would do wonders for me.” her family life wasn’t something she ever talked about but she could at least say that much. “i think they’re both great, but it’s probably easier going by piper once she’s older. at least it’s what i’d do.” she admitted with a small smile. “i’m a big fan of unique names though, so maybe that would change.”

HANA MEYER-COULSON.

“  no.  ”   hana  says  simply,  taking  a  sip  of  her  iced  americano.  the  coffee  shop  was  busy  as  hell,  so  she’d  seen  the  open  space  at  an  otherwise  occupied  table  and  slid  into  it  without  a  care  for  the  girl  with  her  earphones  in.   “  but  i  can  retroactively  ask  you  if  it’s  okay  for  me  to  sit  here,  if  you  want.  ”

“no, it’s alright.” amelia shook her head, letting out a weak laugh. she knew it would be hypocritical to be bothered by someone inviting themselves down - she did it more than once. “i just wanted to make sure i hadn’t missed anything, i do that sometimes.”

LANDON CALLAHAN.

          it’s clear by the way her brows are knitted together that the brunette is focused   —   on anything but what happens right in front of her. his attempt at polite interruption of her trance was left unanswered, and landon even questions whether she had noticed him taking the seat opposite of her. it appears to take him crossing his arms over his chest and a somewhat hopeless scoff to attract her attention.   “ good, you’re still alive, ”   he chuckles in attempt to keep the mood between them light.   “ i was just wondering if you happen to have a charger with you. my phone’s a few percent away from dying, so i could really use one. ”

more than once amelia’s been told to be more aware of the things happening around her; by her social worker, by foster parents or teachers, you make it. that didn’t make much of a difference, especially when she was listening to something. “my bad.” she agreed with a weak laugh, watching him curiously. in her experience, people only asked for something if they needed something -- and then there it was. “yeah, i’ve got one.” amelia nodded, reaching under her feet for her bag; she carried a charger everywhere moreso for her own peace of mind than anything else. it took a minute of rearranging her things to dig it out, and then she held it up victoriously. “knock yourself out, just make sure i get it back.”

felicia: i mean...its not like hella important but im wearing a nice dress and id really like to be with you, so....

amelia: i mean i wouldn't say no.

raising his eyebrow, he nodded, “i figured you didn’t hear me.” he said. the male shrugged his shoulders and nodded once more, “gotcha. but you haven’t seen her today?” he asked, sighing to himself. it’d been a few days since she had left his apartment but he really just wanted to ensure she was okay.

“no, i haven’t.” amelia shrugged, folding her hands in her lap. her eyebrows knitted together slightly on their own doing, but it couldn’t be helped. she didn’t know what else to say, or that she even should if there was an option. “if you want, i can tell her you’re looking for her.” she offered a moment later, chewing on her bottom lip. it wasn’t something she exactly wanted to do, but she couldn’t stop the words from spilling out anyway.

AVA FAULKNER.

having anyone ask ava to show them a couple of things in regards to make up is a compliment that she genuinely takes and cherishes. her face begins to light up gradually, now satisfied with the way her brows are and she turns her attention to amelia. “of course!” the blonde exclaims rather excitedly, clasping her compact mirror shut and shifting to face her. “i could always show you how to do one brow, and you do the other?” ava suggests eagerly, not being able to help but grin at the mention of the crime podcast. “that doesn’t surprise me in the slightest. what was this one about?”

she had anticipated the reaction, but the moment ava’s face lit up she let out a laugh all the same. learning anything like that was fun for her, whether she ever used it or not, “yeah, that works for me.” she nodded, offering a smile. “just don’t hate me too much when the one i do comes out horrific, alright?” she pleads, her eyes lighting up at the thought of her podcast. maybe it’s gruesome but she can’t help it -- they’re her thing. “they’re finally covering the zodiac. i feel like i’ve been waiting forever for that.”

VERONICA MESSER.

               another day , another fake smile , another warm venti cup filled with a chai tea latte . her slender fingers wrapped around the cup , welcoming the warmth against her pale skin , make up concealing the dark circles that were taking place under her eyes , a part of her constantly worried about her secret obsession getting leaked ; the other half constantly rushing through what-if scenarios with her friends , people she grew up with that were becoming a distant memory with her isolation. with her thoughts jumbled , a slight slip of hand & her chai tea was rushing out the mouth hole & towards the floor , soaking the end of her cashmere sweater. ‘‘ oh —— shit , ’’ soft voice cursed before looking up at the person who’s shadow was hovering. ‘‘ i am —- so sorry , none got on you , right ? such —- a freaking clutz , ’’ she muttered , a slightly forced but teasing giggle escaped her glossed lips.

amelia knew that stopping for coffee every morning was probably going to come back to bite her in the ass, but the caffeine addiction couldn’t be helped. especially now with classes on weekdays and doubles at work on the weekends. she had just grabbed her caramel macchiato and tossed away her trash when she noticed the drink slipping out of the other girl’s hand. her heart stopped momentarily for her, feeling both the dread as a server and as a customer fill her. “ -- no, none got on me, don’t worry about it.” she said quickly, once she realized that veronica was talking to her. she set her own cup down and grabbed a few napkins, holding them out. it probably wouldn’t do much, but it was something. “it happens.” amelia offered with a small smile. god only knew how many times she dropped things at work when she was training, and still occasionally.

NAOMI TOWNSEND.‌

the place inside your head; naomi knew most people loved it and to be quite honest? well, it was her favorite place to be too and though she didn’t want to interrupt the teen from whatever was going on in her headphones? she didn’t blame amelia for keeping to herself more often than not, though they were a family or whatever people called it nowadays, she got it. that her life had been hard, that she sometimes needed the PEACE AND QUIET.  “oh uh, nah. i mean, not really… just asked if you were going deaf, those things are loud as hell.”

“oh crap, really? sorry, i never realize how loud i get them.” amelia made a note to turn down the volume. it was a habit to keep them loud, to drown out the world around her but she - at least on some level - knew that other people didn’t want to hear it too. and the last thing she wanted was to risk naomi deciding they didn’t want her anymore, not when the townsends were the one family that she felt close to at peace with. “force of habit, i guess.” she added with a small, almost embarrassed laugh.
