So, I just watched the new Real GOT7 (Season 3, episode 1) that's posted on naver and I don't think there's an English sub of it yet, (and while I'm Korean, I cannot take the time to translate everything in detail, so this will be really simplified), but there are certain parts where BamBam's skin color is mentioned in a way that doesn't sit well with me, at all.Ā
Basically, they're playing a game and the person who loses have to go bare faced, erasing their makeup. Jr. says BamBam's face is darker without makeup, then BamBam mentions how if he takes half his makeup off, half of his face will be like someone threw charcoal (briquettes?) on him and the other half will be white/pale, and some of the other members bring his skin tone in the conversation as well (this conversation starts around 2:45).Ā
Near the end, when they bring out a vanilla cake for BamBam (birthday) and shove his face into it (for fun), his face is covered in the cake and Mark says (around 16:20), that BamBam's face is now whiter/paler, and BamBam says oh, yeah it is, I've always wanted to be more whiter/paler, so now I've found a way to become more whiter/paler and says, if anyone else wants to become whiter/paler, try this method (the latter part is obviously a joke, but it's still obvious that when BamBam said he wanted to be more whiter/paler, that part is true).Ā
Colorism affects people. This shit is real, and we already have enough of that in K-pop already. We don't need it in GOT7 too, and I'm honestly upset. BamBam looks fine, there's nothing wrong with his skin color, and the fact that he wants to have paler skin is really sad.Ā
