I suppose it depends on what part of the fandom you ask, to be honest.

I’ve always maintained that there was a lot of canon tension in Rick and Lori’s marriage, that would have inevitably lead to their separation had the apoc not happened. If they’d stayed together, they would’ve been miserable; I could see that happening as it happens IRL but I’d like to think that somewhere along the line one of them realised that they just couldn’t do it anymore. I feel like I have extra insight on this particular topic cause I’m divorced hahaha

                           [  ☀  ]         She settled into him as he hugged her, pressing a soft kiss to his cheek as she returned it. It instantly calmed her, made her relax, made her smile. At his comment, she laughed, pulling back to look up at him. “I was actually more worried about my dad,” she replied, chuckling. It was nice to be able to relax a bit. At his words, she beamed,nodding excitedly. A laugh followed at the waggle of his eyebrows as she stood at the car, ready to get in. 

                                                             “Pshh, of course I’m ready to celebrate,” Baby replied, “It’ll be nice to spend a birthday doing somethin’ fun. I can’t wait to see what you’ve got planned.” To be honest, Baby was actually alright spending the evening doing whatever Rick wanted. It honestly didn’t matter to her. She just wanted to be with him.

=    Always the gentleman - when in public, anyway - Rick opened the passenger door for Baby, and before long they were both comfortably seated as he eased his Chrysler away from the curb. The air con was set to a comfortable cool temperature, and Corey Taylor quietly crooned from the stereo from the Stone Sour CD that was one of Rick’s default favourites for in the car.

   “So I’ve been meticulously plannin’ tonight for a while,” he began, reaching for Baby’s hand to hold as he drove, fingertips brushing over the bracelet in a way that ensured he made contact with the inside of her wrist as well.

   “I wonder if you’d like to make any guesses as to our itinerary..?” Prompted Rick playfully, eyebrows raised with a slight shrug, though he kept his eyes fairly focused on the road as he navigated subtly toward the state park. “I mean, if you guess wrong, I can always keep it in mind for next year.”
