What does Brett "rap" at the end of Stay Together? David Barnett, author of Love and Poison: The Authorised Biography, answers this via a Facebook post from some years ago (per this thread):
“Here you go:
Time to wheel this out for the millionth time ... My best attempts at transcribing the two very different Stay Together 'raps', taken from collating various attempts by other fans over the years …
Recorded version: ad-libbed live in the studio, September 1993
'It's my father he stands around the farm
Now the world shines from his hands
It started in my time
Time can fucking do that
I don't need his heart that steals the sky
Not this land
Not when this gets his hand
Not tonight
Not tonight when the fires come down
Not tonight on the sickly scowls of his hand
Not tonight when he's stealing another heart
Not his style
Not to steal the car
Not to take me back to the past
Don't take me down to the farm where the cars are there
Don't take me there
Fire in the hands of the drunken
Take me somewhere else'
Live rap: especially written for the live performances, circa November 1993 (note, this changed slightly between concerts but the themes were similar and it always ended with the whipping up a storm rant.
'Now see our lives in the shadow of a gun
Looking for a girl where the pigs won't come
Cried sixteen tears for every year
Shacked up together while we burn in fear
Now here lies the shadow of a god
Hanging in the sky like a star from the son
Snap crack a single bed
Whipping up a storm like a fucker from the dead
See our lives in the shadow of a gun
In a little hole where the pigs come from
Cried sixteen tears for every year
Shacked up together with a bird in here
Now hear our lies in the shadow of a gun
Hanging in the sky like a comet from the sun
Smash grab in the concrete dream
White noise falls to the tune of the dream
Have another ciggie on his hands and knees
Now see our lives in the shadow of a gun
Took a little girl in the shadow of a gun
Single tears for every year
Shacked up together with a bird in here
Shout pout in a single bed
Whipping up a storm like a fucker from the dead
Whipping up a storm like a fucker from the dead...'"
